My dad didn't neglect the others when I was born (we were all in the same house), neither did my mom.  However, I have one sister whom I love dearly who apparently resented the fact that when I was born, I was the "baby," and she lost that title.  It was only yesterday that my dad told me that after I was born, they had a terrible time with her, and her resentment and jealousy caused her to treat me very unkind at times.  She is, strangely enough, my favorite sister, because she has also showed me and my Things a lot of love.  But, that will never take away the awful things she has said to me during my life.  It's her voice that I hear in my head, criticizing me so often, telling me mean things. 

If there's any way you can encourage your um's to try to love this wee one, please do.  The wee one isn't at fault for the father's lopsided attention.

and the wee one is a difficult baby which i find very funny as mine were pretty good as wee'uns.

when she gets big enough to actually interact they'll probably love her to death. if their dad doesn't screw things up...
