thing is, des, she's doing it for show, not for their sakes. the kids do not like her, won't out and out reject her as it would hurt their father, but nothing else.

they were virtually adults by the time she had 'officially' come into their lives, so she had no effect at all in the way they were raised. and if their needs clash with her or their new little sister's needs, they are very quickly shown they are not "their" children at all.

I'm sorry to hear that. My stepmother came into my life when I was an adult, already on my own. We were standoffish and suspicious when they wed but came to realize she did want us in her life and came to love her.

The Man's kids are college and high school. I've had no effect on how they were raised. But they're loved and welcome here anyway. He loves mine also, and they're the same age as his.

As I remind him, the average stepfamily takes seven years before it begins to work.
