I love that Kyttyn is happy this evening.  It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.  =)

*hugs*

I also love that Thing 2 and I are getting ready to pick out a little birthday cake for her party tomorrow.

eta:  I love it when two of my neighbors heard that I was having car troubles and it turns out that one is a mechanic, who said that, as soon as the rain stops and the daylight breaks, he'd be more than happy to take a peek under the hood and give ole missy a look-see.  YAY...

*TTFN, back later sweet people*

Happy Birthday to thing 2..and a very Happy post Labor day to you Red.

poenkitten

Thank you, poen.  Yep, she made Christmas morning quite eventful several years ago.  You never saw a pregnant woman, doubled over panting and screaming, scramble so fast to hide Thing 1's presents in a closet because Christmas got delayed 2 days till I could get out of the hospital on the 27th.  Good thing he wasn't quite 3, so the concept of the actual date meant nothing to him.

I love it when I just remembered seeing Thing 2 brought to me after her first bath and shampoo.  The nurse wheeled her in and I thought I was hallucinating because the hospital volunteers had made baby-size stockings to put the new arrivals from Cmas day in them, to be presented to their parents.    I remember asking my ex, "Is our baby in a Cmas stocking?"  *lol*   Thing 1 saw that and said, "Santa really did bring me a baby sister!"

*warms fuzzies all around*

ps - thank you and all the rest for the sweet cards.

I love it when I decide to take control & snack on the veggies instead of a peanut butter sammie (even if the peanut butter is all natural & just peanuts like peanut butter's supposed to be).

I love it that I have lots of Willie to listen to tonight.  He always puts me in a great headspace.

I love that the cooking class up at the hospital today went amazingly well, aside from one minor mishap where one of the veterans tried to chop off the end of his thumb.  Lesson learned about "keep the knife low, fingers away from the blade and eyes on the work, not everywhere else while cutting."  Luckily, we were, you know... at a hospital. :)  He's fine, didn't even require stitches.  Luckily it was one of my knives, so he could have shaved with it if need be.  I'd have smacked him for doing so, but he could.

I love seeing the veterans and staffs faces as they learn new things, and see that, with 4 hours, $150ish, and a little imagination, one can make a massive feast for christmas to feed about 25 hungry people easily.  I love seeing some of them being there, and being around people, because these classes are the only time they're not alone and lonely.  I love sitting down after the class where everyone gets to eat what we all worked together on and talk and laugh and just enjoy life in our little class room, and the rest of the world just doesn't matter for a small time.  I love having the people I care about there with me while teaching, and that santa came through for me on this one too, dumping a ton of snow for the christmas dinner class.  After all, what's christmas dinner without snow?  I love the irony of the person who cut his thumb getting the paring knife set and cutting board I brought for the random gift exchange (oh yeah, he's not going to live that one down for a long time).    I love seeing the vet in the wheelchair coming in and looking particularly down, and suddenly shining as he realizes that he CAN do something awesome still.  I love coming home overly full and standing on the porch and having a cigarette, and watching my Dear One, who hates snow and cold, flop down and make a huge snow angel in the front yard.  I love seeing people smiling and waving and yelling Merry Christmas to me in my top hat and waistcoat.

I guess what I'm saying is, I LOVE days like today, days that really do make life seem like it's worth the headaches, because if I weren't still pushing through the general ass-hattery of life, I couldn't have these days too.  :)

Good morning...
i love that it only took 45 minutes to dig my car out. i love that i remembered to park backward and put my wipers up and i love that the next 16 hours i need to spend standing at the actual portal to hell...(literally, you can come to the lobby at the first of the hour and see Beelzebub himself ...as a tourist attraction)...anyway, the next 16 hours will be hell but i will  be well compensated...FINALLY....and then i get to do it again tomorrow...same portal to hell...same hours...

i love that im grateful for the hours, even in hell...so i will try to channel Ole Flo and give those patients every bit of good nursing care that i can possibly give...and count the dollar signs in my head....Christmas presents...finally....whew. Wait, screw Christmas presents...i can buy milk!!!!

Ummmm, ok, Beezlebub hisself standing at the portal of hell... Not exactly Christmas-y, Perse but hey! Moolah is moolah!

I love that we got the last of our Christmas shopping done yesterday (DAMN! This is just about the earliest I've ever finished!) and now all we have left to do is the wrapping and grocery shopping. The fun and adventurous part was that a major winter snowstorm hit the region and things were shutting down but we went anyway. Talk about no crowds, no fuss, ummm, no staff but it was wonderful. We found everything we needed (and then some!!!) and some great deals!

And it's snowing again... With more snow on the way.

Ok, I'll be honest - this gave me the sniffles and tears of happiness. I'm an emotional basketcase for things like this, as Daddy can tell you. I love stuff like this!

Good on ya, BKSir! I'm glad it worked out so well and that the guy didn't need stitches!

To all the replies, yeah, it was a lot of fun, I really enjoy doing the class, the people in it are just awesome, and I learn as much as they do, if not more. Just as it should be. :)

The menu was a roast beef, slow cooked on a bed of baby carrots, celery and pearl onions, mashed sweet potatoes and apples, confetti mashed potatoes (mashed potatoes with cream cheese, pimentos and chopped green onion), deviled eggs, yorkshire pudding, lemon chess pie, rolls, stuffed mushrooms, homemade egg nog, and hot cocoa.

One of the best parts of it was being able to give some of them a christmas that they wouldn't have had otherwise.  If anyone has a V.A. hospital or something nearby, I would really suggest, if you have time and want to do some volunteer work, going up and seeing what they have need for in their rec. therapy/voc. rehab groups.  It's a very rewarding experience all around, for a generally extremely appreciative group of people that have, overall, lost a lot and given everything, to get very little in return when they got home.  Most of the hospitals have these kind of groups, for things like painting, writing, ceramics, woodworking, leatherworking (yeah, that probably got peoples attention here ), and other things.  For example, here, the voc. rehab added the cooking class, bowling, cross country skiing (we are in utah after all, and a lot of the resorts here were more than happy to help out, particularly Solitude*shameless plug for an awesome place*), and horseback riding.  So, yeah, there should be something to help with for anyone and everyone.

The biggest reason I enjoy working up there, is because of my partner, a p.t.s.d. vet, and many members of my own family who went and served, and came back to a fate worse than death.  One of my grandfathers was a veteran of both nam and korea, as were a good number of his friends that I met.  Seeing what had happened to them, and what they got in return for it... well... not a christmasy thought, let's put it that way.  But uncles, aunts, many people I knew while working in the kitchen in the nursing home...  I may not agree with the circumstances of some of these conflicts, but I have nothing but the utmost respect for those that served because they actually believed in honour and freedom and wanted to defend it, or worse, didn't even have a choice.  Many of them came home to a "Oh, hi, go away."

They've seen enough bad in their lives, that even the smallest amount of good can touch them and change their lives a great deal, and if I can be part of bringing that to them, if I can die and have even one person say "He touched me and changed me for the better.", even if it's in a minor way, then I've lived a life that I can be proud of, and haven't wasted it.

lucious my sweet

A random act of kindness is just that, pay it forward, there is always an opportunity to help another in need.

To want something in return takes away from the satification of feeling good about ones self.  Thats all I needed and was happy to do it.  I have been on your end and had friends do the same for me.......I love karma

btw tmobile is who I use, my sister covets a blueberry but she has the means to get her own if she wanted.
I have a purty plum the upgrade of the V6?  Bright pink magenta phone, its going to waste here is someone is in need also.
