The North Atlantic is the deadliest ocean on the planet. Waves routinely hit 100 feet, and the weather is constantly changing.
Compared to the Alaskan crab fishermen, the Gloucester Long liners or Bill Fishermen face worse weather as well as have a higher incidence of work related injuries and fatalities, AND they routinely are out of range of coast guard rescue.
Even the Pacific Ocean is deadlier than the Alaskan Fisheries.

I would remind everyone of the book "Perfect Storm" dealing with the loss of the Andrea Gail, a Bill fish commercial fishing vessel that was lost during a North Atlantic Storm.
