If I have returned in time to turn on the ol' tube, I will be watching the battlestar wheezing through its final battle. If not, I'll just catch it on scifi.com's replay.

Hey all you silly folks, come fly your geek flag & watch Battlestar Galactica tonight!!

Terawootles!

I stopped watching battlestar Galactica after they aired an episode portraying rape as an interrogation technique.  I know that this sounds strange coming from a dom, but being ex military, I find the whole idea repugnant.

However, I will probably spend the evening watching Babylon 5 or possibly Firefly, if not something on one of the discovery channels.

Thorny, I HAVE all episodes of B5 and firefly on my computer.

In fact there is 645gigs of just movies and tv shows.  31 Gigs of music, uh, 33 gigs of music, not to mention music videos and misc. adult entertainment.

Now, I ask you, do I really need a tv?

The North Atlantic is the deadliest ocean on the planet.  Waves routinely hit 100 feet, and the weather is constantly changing.

Compared to the Alaskan crab fishermen, the Gloucester Long liners or Bill Fishermen face worse weather as well as have a higher incidence of work related injuries and fatalities, AND they routinely are out of range of coast guard rescue.

Even the Pacific Ocean is deadlier than the Alaskan Fisheries.

quote:

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health released a report Thursday detailing the hazards of fishing in the Pacific Ocean off the coasts of California, Oregon and Washington. The report said those three states combined for a fatality rate more than twice as high as the national commercial fishing average between the years of 2000 and 2006.

quote:

In raw numbers, 33 people died in commercial fishing in Alaska in 1990.

By 2007, preliminary numbers show deaths had decreased to 11 people. Lincoln said that between 2000 and 2006, 58 deaths were reported for the three West Coast states. Most happened when ships sank or capsized. Falls overboard were the second-leading cause. Other factors leading to deaths included drug and alcohol abuse. Lincoln also noted that boats working off the West Coast usually are smaller than those in the Bering Sea. Weather, including large waves, and vessels hitting sand bars were the leading contributor to ships sinking or capsizing. In Oregon and Washington, many of the boats fishing in the Pacific anchor in ports near treacherous waters at the mouth of the Columbia River, where sand bars lies below the surface.

I would remind everyone of the book "Perfect Storm" dealing with the loss of the Andrea Gail, a Bill fish commercial fishing vessel that was lost during a North Atlantic Storm.

I was thinking of an old debate...who would you pick for a) a one-night fling, b) a car trip across the country.

Now, the car trip doesn't rule out fornication.

I'd go Sig for a) and Jonathan or his brother for b).

I have decided that there are NO fish in Kansas.  I have no idea where they went to, but there are no fish.  And I have also decided that Butterhead watches too many animal shows.  She tried to eat a tree today.  Among other things.  *shaking head*

There are too fish in Kansas... there been fish caught in the river near KC, and in other parts of the state.

You just have to think like a fish to catch a fish.  Fish dont like shadows on the water, so they stay away from them.  If it has just rained the fish are thinking, "I cant eat another bite."

Of course, they may also be looking at the lure you are using and talking amongst themselves about how dumb it looks.  (Unfortunately, most fishing lures are designed to catch fishermen, not fish)
