Status: offline 		Good morning y'all!! How's the day treating you so far? Had a great thunderstorm here last night, of course, right as we were working on the new computer. Ahhhhh - nothing like the joy of almost frying the brand spanking new motherboard and power supply!!

An FYI... i found out the hard way (fried computer) that a surge protector will only last so long. It seems they need to be replaced every 2 years or so...

Status: offline 		Quiet. Mr. Smarties is off with RhinoAss this weekend. 

As for the surge protector, we have one but Lumus was trying to slave an IDE hard drive into the new SATA 500 GB drive we got with the new computer. He'd go to plug in or remove one of the jumper cables and the entire system would crash and turn itself off, refusing to turn back on for a minute or more at times.  

He gave up for now, we just have the new hard drive, even though there's about 70 GB of crap we need off the old one.

That was Engrish, just a wee bit of tech-speak. Stoopid-ass salesman was nice but ignorant. He gave us an upgraded case and free keyboard and mouse since we bought a new system. But there I was - trying  to get stinkin' information about the system he was pushing and he just about died when a MERE WOMAN DARED to ask a question beyond 'what colours does it come in?'

Silly me, I had the balls to ask things like extra bays for additional devices, what about the sound and video cards, what are the specs on the CPU, is the CPU definitely dual-core, blah, blah, blah....

Is it just me or is it wrong when someone like me walks into a computer store and knows MORE THAN THE FUCKING SALESMAN about the systems they're selling?

It's not just you...I have quite a few computers here by now as they somehow don't last very long once they are in my hands...and when I am in uni stress then I need then to work NOW and not days or even weeks later until someone might come along to fix it...Mr. Adorable was a bit stunned about the fact that I have quite a few items more then once...but every item has a reason and it's not really my fault that I have them more then once (though he disagrees on that one)...every time when I buy a new laptop they keep getting on my nerves with trying to sell me additional stuff I don't need and don't want...

Status: offline 		  My problem is that I've worked on computers since 1982, learning to program in Basic on an original Apple. Not an Apple IIE but just an Apple. I used to build my own systems and have worked with computers for years. I have absolutely no problem just getting parts and putting it together. Nor does Lumus. The problem stemmed from the fact that I wanted specs and that dumbfounded the salesman. Since I know what we use the computer for (and we use it A LOT!), we couldn't get just some barebones POS. (We have an old POS, hence the new computer.) So a salesman can't just tell me that I'll like these pretty colours because I'll tell him what he can do with himself and walk out of the store. I've done it before and will do it again.

Despite this, if anyone needs a computer in the Niagara Falls area, I know a great store with some fantastic prices. I would recommend them highly, I'm very happy with the new toy!

Status: offline 		Good morning everyone...it's still (or is that again) raining here.  Had a great lightning show last night. 
 
There were idiots driving into and through water that covered the road.  They spray went higher than the trucks and cars. 
 
 When will they learn that if they can't SEE the road under the water....it may NOT be there anymore.  i've seen sinkholes and whole pavements washed out under perfectly innocent looking water.

Well, you could just pack Lumus in your car and pop over...I can keep you busy with repairing 4 laptops...that should keep you happy

I also have 2 routers as somehow they don't do what I want (means they don't get installed...I only have 2 as the first one I dropped when I picked it up from the post, so I wasn't sure if I already managed to break it...)...so I could keep you occupied ya know

My ex has a hard- and a software company and even he gave up on me...which is why since then I...have a few computers at home instead of....just one...

edites as I forgot...since 1982????? Gosh I didn't even talk in those days (as I keep getting told that I wouldn't have talked until I was about 5...some wish I would have never ever started)

and it can even lead to explosions....at least Mr. Adorable thinks that this was the reason for the lava lamp plug in light which had exploded here sunday early morning hours...as the glue wasn't dried yet when I plugged it in
