Aylee...the guys task here is to keep the kids out of the kitchen. It saves alot of bellowing ("HEY!!! Put my wine down, ya lil shit!!")

My dad's task is to mix my mother and little sister's drinks (and anyone else's that wants one). Also. . . to fry the turkey anymore. Men are also good for lifting anything heavy out of the oven, and getting stuff down from high shelves. (We are a family of short people.) Guys are also good for carving the meats. And yep, keeping the children (and my dad's mother) OUT of the kitchen and occupied is another task!

What is funny is that my sister's hubby, likes to cook (he is really good at it, and does some catering as well). So he ends up in the kitchen with the wimmins as well. Which works in my family as none of us were taught that only certain genders did certain things.

Y'all are lucky.

At our family's gatherings - which my household no longer attends- we have to pull the knives out of our backs before any cooking can commence.

Actually I am quite glad to hear this. That you no longer attend. I get SO tired of people whinging about family gatherings, and THEY STILL GO! For pity's sake, if they are awful, then just say NO.

actually Peaches...i have been where you are as far as the Backstabbing Brigade.

My "family" with the exception of my son, does not consist of one person i share DNA with.
My birth family and i have no contact. Those knives cut deep and scar badly.

LOL...the kid had a blast!! He was pretty banged up by the end of the night (scraped knees, etc) but he really enjoyed himself.

I was kind of embarrassed though...there was a young man there who was total Goth. The LO had never seen a Goth person before and the kid stared...to the point of standing next to this young man...staring. Every time i led the LO away, he would work his way back...to stare. Luckily, this man was extremely good natured and got a kick out of the whole thing
