The belief that a slave should be taken care of very well is a prevalent one in BDSM culture, but it is not held in quite the same way in Gorean culture. A slave is regarded as property in the same way as other livestock, and while it's considered stupid to mistreat your dairy cows, they're still cows and should be treated accordingly as valuable livestock property. It's a different perspective from the one we have in BDSM, but no less consented to by the folks who choose it.
