Heh.  That snark was me, logged into our local femdom Munch group profile.  And you wouldn't believe the amount of explicit crap we get at that profile, despite the fact that it says clearly that it's the profile for the whole Munch group and several members including men may be logged in to answer the Munch inquiries, which is all the profile is set up for.

uggg, now I just forgot something else important because now I know the difference between Ceasar and Caesar.  As to wickpedia.....that's what happens when you make up a word, we visual spellers always get it wrong.

Thanks for the correction though.

I dont get upset at poor use of words. I do worry when someone gets upet when the mistake might be pointed out and rather than say oops, I made a typo, they get bitchy.
If you are dominant, then you are dominant.  If you are submissive then you are submissive. Use the words as you please, but if your lack of correct usage either makes your meaning difficult to figure out then you might not get the responses you want.  And if you are using words incorrectly while trying to convince someone else you are capable of controlling them, you are not going to look nearly as convincing as youd like.

My opinion, of course.

We've been over this a few times.  There are a few recognized nominal senses of "dominant."  For example, "a dominant" makes sense in music.  Also, zoologists and so on have been using "dominant" as a noun to refer to the dominant member of a pack, and some dictionaries now list that usage as well.

Oh, and it's "grammar," not "grammer."

quote:

ORIGINAL: Joseff

Well, while we're correcting grammer, dominant is an adjective. EG: I am dominant, or I am a dominant (person).
OK, English class is over. As for the common instance of improper usage, it does tend to reflect upon the percieved intelligence of the "Dominate".

Ok, now I know I am too sleepy for forums. I just read this entire thing and not one word to say other then...OMG was there nothing in the news or something more rational to talk about, that you A/all spent this much time debating improper speller and grammar?

*wanders off to get some coffee and wake the heck up*

I was just thinking the same thing.  We debate something we deal with constantly, and someone pops on just to tell us she thinks our debate is silly?

I didn't just "pop on" Divurnal...I read the whole thing. And honestly it was debated and corrected all fairly soon into the thread.

And though I didn't use the word "silly" I do find alot of the threads get to be so when people rehash the same stuff repeatedly within one thread IMO.

Lastly if it appears I just "pop on"...that is because I have alot more to do in My day then stay on the forums waiting for each response. And no, before you A/all get your back up on that too, I am not saying anyone else does...just that I do not.

*Goes back to work wondering why people get so pissy over things such as this yet the world is full of more serious injustices*

~ And a quick note to Lord and Master...why would I bother repeating what everyone else is saying? All the points were covered long before My first post. ~

It's actually a pretty famous quote from Wittgenstein; the nice thing about timelessly insightful comments is that they prove applicable in the most unexpected contexts.  Who ever quoted Wittgenstein on Collarme?

Lam, takin' it to the next level.

I am so glad I'm not the only person whose eyes cross trying to read messages from people who cannot seem to take the time to spell correctly.  Of course, I get the feeling most of them just slap me with the S.A.M. label when I reply with corrections to said messages, instead of actually answering the content.

Hello, folks!

Gods,

You don't have to call us "Gods" here, even though some may indeed deserve the appellation! ;-D

quote:

The man was a dominate?
The female hyenna was the dominate?
If you add 'figure, species, etc' to those sentences, with further notations,it would be correct.

Let me see if I'm reading this right: you are suggesting that the following sentence is grammatically correct?

"The man was a dominate figure."

Actually, this is still not correct. The proper use of the term in this context is an adjective describing the sort of 'figure' the man presented. A good check for such terms' proper grammar is to use an antonym in the same place/context. For example:

"The man was a submit figure."

As you can see, this doesn't parse, even in the context you suggested. If one were to use 'dominant' instead, one can make much more sense with the use of the antonym, submissive, as follows:

"The man was a submissive figure."

Yes, I'm a bit obsessive about proper grammar. I simply consider it a measure of the effort invested in communication. If the person makes a reasonable effort, I will reciprocate in order to understand their statement(s). If the person makes little or no effort to be concise, I too shall make little or no effort to understand their statement(s). Considering that we are interacting in a textual environment, it seems to me that the proper use of said text may be a reasonable expectation.

We get what we give.

Well wishes,

~Kimveri

Is it time yet to start picking on the Brits, Canadians and Australians for their stupid Frenchified spelling of words like "colour"?

I actually think it's kind of a glamorous spelling: colour, theatre, glamour, etc. But then again, I am just not used to it, probably. I don't see it a lot, and it seems kind of exotic (to me).

For me when a man has in his profile "I am a Dominate" i wonder about other things about them and the way they are....English grammar and such was never my strong suit but anyone who has read a certain number of books in their lifetime or kept their ears open to general intelligent conversation etc should be able to surmise that saying "I am a Dominate" just is plain wrong and maybe they should investigate it...just my humble opinion and i guess i am taking the common sense approach.
