I work in Florence AL, so I'm getting a kick out of this. Alabama is behind the rest of the US by about 20 years. Just remember that.

What does this say about our supreme court?Nothing good,IMO.

Thanks republicans.Worth shit in the war on terror, but alllll over gay marriage and sex toys.

God help us,through these "interesting" times.

What the hell does the Supreme Court, gays, and the war on terror have to do with banning sex toys in Alabama? I swear you people cant stay on one topic for more than 2 seconds. You always feel the need to throw in other issues in order to strengthen your argument.

The only way the US Supreme Court would step in on a law like this is if it is unconstitutional. I dont think the law is unconstitutional. The state has a right to pass laws like this per the 10th amendment.

If you live in Alabama, then your quarrel should be with your elected leaders...not the federal government. The feds didnt pass this law. And if it is that bad in that state....move. There is 49 other states where dildos are legal.

LadyLynx -> RE: Alabama bans sex toys, wtf! (10/2/2007 12:55:23 PM)

cyberdude while you do have a point, moving isn't always an option.  of course one has to look at all the options, can they afford to move? (if there are kids.) the need to find good schools in the new place. finding work (preferably in the area that you have been schooled/trained in) different community interests, places of worship, so on so forth. anyways sorry for digressing

sundownhawk -> RE: Alabama bans sex toys, wtf! (10/2/2007 2:57:38 PM)

Is it still legal to use them on your cousin there?

laurell3 -> RE: Alabama bans sex toys,wtf! (10/2/2007 3:10:04 PM)

I haven't read it, but the refusal to hear the case probably has nothing to do with it's merits.  As cyberdude pointed out it's more likely a procedural declination on whether there is a legitimate constitutional issue.
I don't think moving is necessary, I can't really see alot of enforcement of this law.  I have a hard time imagining some prosecutor going to a judge for a warrant on the belief someone has a vibrator in their home.  I'm sure we will see the issue again before the supreme court when it's ripe, ie: they do search people's homes or enforce the idiotic law unequally.

"Alabama’s anti-obscenity law, enacted in 1998, bans the distribution of “any device designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs for anything of pecuniary value.”"

Apparently it's just the distribution of sex toys, not possession or use.  Alabama must want to give away their business to the internet. [;)]

Well kid,I`ll spell it out for ya.

The republicans have been frothing at the mouth for decades about putting conservatives on the bench.
That`s code for"we want things to go our way",court case wise. They`ve been very open about all this, for decades.

They pretty much have us there now.For the last five years or so,every single case that put a corporation`s interest against the interest's of the consumer, the middle class,or Joe Sixpack, the court decided for corporate America, and against Americans(you and me).

Name an issue, bankruptcy rights(one of the oldest laws in America, btw),laws to control predatory lending, consumer protection laws, land rights cases(imminent domain laws),and cases that conservatives want to win, like making abortion illegal,or gay rights, election finance, the free press, putting religion into our schools and other civic institutions, etc.

I think the conservatives count this as a win, because the "anti-sinners"(neo-cons,christian righties, etc) who got this law passed in Alabama, see the Supreme Court`s refusal to take the case as vindication ,and agreement with them.

When the court refuses a case,it`s often that they agree with the lower courts ruling.Which is the case here,IMO.
All the participants feel that way, which backs up my thoughts on that.

The republicans have managed to put gay marriage ,on par w/ real and important issues, like the war, health care, crime(which is going up,btw,thank-you ass hole republicans),and our financial health(remember Alan Greenspan`s interview?)

And ,they`re (the republicans) are losing the war on terror, and only making things worse, and on every level.
Including taking away our Constitutional rights, and our freedoms(with the  Supreme courts complacency).

"What the hell does the Supreme Court, gays, and the war on terror have to do with banning sex toys in Alabama?"

Good queation.

The common denominator here,is republicans.

The time and energy they waste on non-issues,like this one, takes away from the real work they should be doing.
Like taking care of our GIs,and doing over-sight,and checking the power of the executive branch, protecting and defending the Constitution.

It`s a joke, really, but the truth of it is real enough.

The republicans can`t even tie their shoes,in terms of the war on terror, but can find time to do stupid things like re-name an air-port after Ronald Regan,or resolve to call French-fried potatoes,"freedom fries",lol, push anti-gay-marriage Constitutional amendments and weaken the wall of separation, between church and state.

What a bunch of dopes. And their supporters?Just as clueless.

They can`t find osama, but they have time to sell our ports to the Arabs, who financed 9/11(Dubai).They can get us stuck in Iraq, but rebuild America? Hell no,there`s no money for that!

I wonder if the republicans, will change their convention city(for their national convention),from Minneapolis,
Minnesota, were the bridge collapsed,to another place. That collapse ,has come to symbolize the  republican`s screwed up priorities and failures.

I know that there`s going to be a lot of protesters there, and that bridge collapse, will be a promanant theme, especially by Minnesotans.

Hope that connects the dots for ya.You need to have a bird`s eye view of things,to see the larger picture.and how things relate to one another.

LOL,yeah. They`re only going after the "dealers",not the "users".

Makes perfect sense.

<<< Thinks about opening a store on an Alabama border, knowing border patrol in this country sucks.

Hanable -> RE: Alabama bans sex toys, wtf! (10/2/2007 6:35:36 PM)

as i understood the article.. the laws agaisnt selling/buying the vibs/toys in alabama.. not useing them.. so technicly.. u could buy ur toys online from a store outside of alabama.. have it shipped to u via the us mail, fedx, UPS, what ever and it would be legal.. thats what i take from the artical anyway.

pahunkboy -> RE: Alabama bans sex toys, wtf! (10/2/2007 6:38:39 PM)

divide and conquer an old and reliable way of deviding a population.  gay marriage i agree is a non issue. thats creep senetor that is arguing he wasnt guilty of bathroom pass at a officer- what a mess up.  laws  you and i are expected  to follow- the ruling elite exapmt themself from.

as to the AL law- one cant disturb interstate commerce.  ie- that profit will just go to out of state biz.  BTW- ild say more males use sex toys then females, becus men are more willing to part with a $ to get off.

Bluebird -> RE: Alabama bans sex toys, wtf! (10/2/2007 8:42:47 PM)

The law states "...any device designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs FOR ANYTHING OF PECUNIARY VALUE."  So, if you don't actually SELL the toy, is it a crime?  I am wondering if you sell lube for $26.99/bottle and throw in a vibrator as a "free gift", is that considered acceptable?

and I LOVED the Dildo video!  That will be circulating my office in the morning...
