There are a few ways I relax:
Get on my horse and go crashing through the woods. He's a big brute (17.2 hands) and likes to race the deer.
Get on my motorcycle and go riding in a thunderstorm.
Get a lady and ravish her (and I do mean ravish) .. probably include a crop, maybe some rope, some spanking (something about the feel of my hand on a cute ass, leaving a nice print), some force, and lots of sex.

Spankings and thuddy floggings.
Haven't had either one in quite some time.

Most of mine have been mentioned, but I'll definitely throw my lot in with the knife camp.  I just feel like all is right with the world after that, laying there reveling in the dirty words carved on my back.  I can't really explain why, it is just the right kind and level of pain, and i love the marks and how one I feel with who I am when I have slut or cunt carved on my back.   He's never really drawn blood, just scratched, but I think I'd really like that... too much probably...    I certainly love rope bondage, I just feel so content all wrapped in rope, and often crave a rope bondage fix when I'm stressed.  Just being happily cocooned or restrained with nothing to do and nothing I can do, safe and content, even if there is torment to come.  And hot wax makes me laugh out loud and is so relaxing as the heat just seems to leach all the negativity out of you, and a nice thuddy flogging after the wax is rejuvinating too.

When I'm really tense, the vanilla stuff does wonders too.  Nice to have a sweet slave girl around for hair tickles, gentle back and arm tickles, those sweet, gentle caresses.  Stephan gives good caresses too when he is so inclined, but there is something so soft and sweet and innocent that makes me melt with Charlotte's touch.  Mmm, and enjoying any food kissed by that sweet girl, can't beat that with a stick.  Charlotte, I miss you!!!!

Anything that makes me laugh really hard tends to relieve stress for me.  When Master runs the wartenberg (sp?) wheel down the back of my legs, it usually makes me scream then burst out in fits of laughter.  I always like that.

The other thing is kneeling at his feet with my  head on his lap.  Its one of the few times I feel perfectly relaxed.  We don't do it near enough.

I'm feeling pretty stressed right now.

ed to add:  Interstingly, I love knife play and cutting, but haven't noticed that cutting really affects my stress levels except within scene...it doesn't hurt nearly as much as some of the other stuff he does, so when I feel the knife, its always a relief and usually a release.

Activities that relieve stress...

Abrasion play, kicking and punching, pressure points, gripping, knife play...  the theme is an activity that gets him in close, flesh on flesh.  I find floggers, canes and paddles to be impersonal and they do not always get rid of stress.

Since I don't get to engage in SM often, I substitute it with exercise.  Spinning and lifting weights gives me an endorphine rush and helps keep stress managable.

Yes, indeed. My former sub would be uptight and nervous when we got together, until I spread her pussy wide and started using the bunny ears on her clit. By the time I'd gone down on her with my mouth and tongue, nipped at her clit and made her squirt all over the sheets ...she was limp as a rag doll. Stress relived!

Not to hijack that thread i thought i'd start another.

I'm curious if there is any activity that specifically relieves your stress?
For example as soon as Sir puts a knife to my skin i can feel any stress i have been feeling just melt away.

Do you think there is any reason that this one act works better than another?
For me I think a little like a self harmer who cuts themselves, i feel like my stress is being let out when Sir cuts me.

I  have a stressful job so I've had to find creative ways to vent it. I used to spend alot of time riding aggressivly on my motorcycle, it worked but was more than a little hazardous for my health. I write, that helps. Primal play is  a favorite of mine for venting stress tho, it's very physical and it gives me that outlet to scream, and  even cry, if that is what I need to do. Floggers.... nice leather or latigo leather..minus metal tips *s* are one of my favorite impliments...after knives and  the obvious hands and feet *s*

I wonder if its a chemical brain thing?
Maybe someone will post who knows the science bit lol.

Amygdala (see also: fear).
Norepinephrine (see also: SNRI, NARI).
Opioid receptor (see also: buprenorphine).
Phenethylamine (see also: amphetamine).

That should get you started on some of it, at least.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Their brains release dopamine when they run…and, oddly…when we get beat, our brains also release dopamine.

Err... not directly. There is a dopamine response to novel stimuli, pleasurable stimuli, unpleasant stimuli, and generally anything that your brain thinks it should pay attention to. And there's a dopaminergic cascade downstream from the opioid system, which is what these things were actually thought to push in the first place... not the dopamine system directly. Currently, it'd seem like it's a cannabis-like substance instead.

quote:

Dopamine is the drug-like hormone that acts so much like heroine, that at least one researcher is known to make the comment “Who knew so many runners were heroine addicts!”

No. You're thinking about endorphins. And, apparently that's disputed now, too.

In either case... does it matter?

It works.

Health,
al-Aswad.

now why did i not see this posting sooner(lol) Thank You to those that related this post to me.

for the first couple of times my Lord and or His wife flogged me with their usual, rope whip, riding crop and belt, i held back in the things i was feeling untill i went up to my quarters for the night.

last night was different, when my Lord's wife flogged me last night(and reminded me it will be again tonight),i felt so much of what i was "carrying" drift away from me and i woke today feeling so much renewal it just amazes me and i find myself waiting in anticapation for tonight

Stress relievers? Beatings, restraints, sex, and cattle. I take progesterone, not prozac or Zoloft which is origionally what the docs wanted to prescribe me before I insisted on a few more tests, and the progesterone does wonders but sometimes its not quite enough. Normally Sir can fix whatever mood or stress issues I may have with a good length of rope and a riding crop but sometimes he isnt around. So I go sit in the middle of my pasture and talk to the cows. Cows are great therapists. They are smarter than most people give them credit for you know. And those big brown eyes, especially the babies, they are so curious, they get into everything. Anyway I tell everything to my cows. Sometimes I sleep out there with them. My ex has a video of me dancing with a cow....but there were mind altering substances involved that night.....

what helps?  being flogged, knifeplay, having Daddy hold me tightly to him and being told that i DO mean something to him.

i have a history of self injury too...and i haven't done it in years...but sometimes when i go too long without being played, stupid shit happens sub-consciously, like i will stick my hand in the dishwasher without looking and cut my hands on knives (now thats partly to blame on the dumb fucks -not me- who stick the knives in the dishwasher sharp end up, but...) but i didn't intend on doing it, and it happens really frequently and severely when i haven't been played enough...i have a friend that got a spiral fracture in her wrist (that was just the latest injury) when she hadn't been played in long enough....

i wonder why the body will sub-consciously do things to create chances for endorphin and adrenaline release in particular people?

chelle

because the body knows what it needs.  i figure the less-evolved parts of the brain (a friend of mine refers to it as the lizard brain) knows what chemicals are needed to make the body feel "right" again.

for me, i can be careful in the kitchen,  my biggest problem comes when i shave my legs.  i have a long scar across my knee, and there is one little place on the scar that is VERY easy to catch if i'm not exceedingly careful.  seeing the blood well up and drip helps me emotionally, but it makes Daddy unhappy with me...and i dont want that.

kitten who now has 59 granny squares completed for an afghan.  in 4 days.  *sighs*
