I hate that black chick on that Orajel commercial that talks about her toothache being worse than labor pains.  Her voice is all nasally and it made my skin crawl so bad that I just feel all icky!  -shudders-

Kyttyn knows that this is indeed the First Rule in the Manual of Being Raised Southern, I'm certain.

You can say anything about anybody, no matter how evil, as long as you "bless them."  It just kinda takes the edge off... like an epidural.

However, if you are a transplant to the South (like you lived up north, in NY or CT or some other gawd-awful place), this rule does not apply because you are not twuely Southern.  You're just some wannabe Margaret Mitchell character.

Its so true...erm twue.  I have seen women look at babys in strollers and say things like "Lawd, that child is uglier than home made soap, bless his heart." and instead of gettin all huffed up, the Mamas just smile sweetly and giggle and walk away.

Yup.  It's the way of the South.  Twue Southern folks know how to knock you for a loop, without using big words that make you sound like a pompous ass trying to sound important, by using tried and true methods passed down from generation to generation.  This kinda stuff jus' ain't found anywhere else in the country.  You can always tell someone who hasn't been schooled in this fine art correctly, because they stumble about it in such a way as to make themselves look like a peacock, when they're actually more like a pidgeon.

As it was said once, and I can't remember where I heard it...

A true Southern woman knows how to smile politely, nod in agreement with you, make small talk, laugh with you, all the while preparing to shove the knife in your gut because she didn't forget when you tried to upstage her somewhere along the line, or perhaps you said something most unkind about her family, and forgot to say "bless their hearts."

Oh yeah... that's my motto and creed.
