I have someone with children that comes over to my house, and tells the children that they are not allowed to have ANYTHING.  No soda, juice, milk, water, tea, any beverage OR any type of snack.  But then proceeds to have a soda herself AND a munchie of any snacks that I may have around.

WTF is up with that? 

If I HAD a problem with them having something, then I would NOT offer it.  Plus it is rude to eat and drink in front of others. 

No, this is not a one time thing.  This has happened MORE than once!  Pisses me right the fuck off!

Status: offline 		I hate it when I tell my almost 84 year old dad not to go to his car, on the ice, and get stuff out of the trunk, and he ignores me.  So I yell, "Dad, don't go out there!  Get back inside, you're gonna fall!!!"  And without missing a beat... he reminds me that he is still at the top of the familial pyramid, and yells back, "[uses full version of given first name], SHUT UP.  I'm fine!"  And all I can do is stand there, mouth dropped open, then pout.

Status: offline 		Thank goodness, he didn't fall, but he did give me the hairy eyeball. 

He is never slow to remind us that he's still the patriarch and he's not going to do something he isn't sure of.  I just worry.  When I reminded him that I fell on the ice last week, he said, "I know that, and I'm sorry you fell."  All I can do is look at him all    like, and he goes and does what he wants.   He was cute when he said, "If I didn't listen to your mother scold me all those years, I'm not starting with you...  now, just hush."

And since I'm a South'ren girl, all I can do is say, "Oh, Daddy."

Status: offline 		WHoa!  So I was not alone in chasing nutty parents off the ice!  After breakfast this morning I heard that sound of shoveling, and I yelled HEY!! Crazy lady!!, and mom said she was just shoveling a path to the mailbox.   There was maybe a quarter inch of snow on the ground.  Mom is wearing her new thermal underwear (cuddlduds with coolmax!) because she can't abide the cold. 

Is there some correlation between getting social security and going batshit crazy?  Because mom turns 68 this year, and dad turns 70.  It's too late for me, isn't it?

Sigh.

Also, I hate that benefit mascara is not waterproof.  It's FREAKIN expensive, you would think they would add to the awesome by waterproofing it.

Status: offline 		You youngsters leave us old folks alone. I remember we had 2 old people living across the street from us. they were both 98. In the winter he would shovel everyones walks early in the morning. The woman next to him use to get up on a ladder and wash her 2 story house windows. They were both on pacemakers. I guess it was better they were both active than sitting in a rocking chair.

Status: offline 		DRH and Linnae they will do what they will do. No matter how old they need to feel that spark of I can still do it. My grandmother kept that attitude up to the day of her death at 104 and insisted on doing things for herself even from a wheelchair. I think that is one of the things that kept her mind sharp and allowed her to live so long. Help them but don't stiffle and just be there to catch them when they start to fall..hmmm think we did that with our kids too 

They do look sooo sweet and innocent when they are asleep don't they GT? You just wanna tuck em in.

OK Angel you are going to be comfortable here in Florida when you visit

Status: offline 		I hate that certain members of my family have "disowned" me and yet spend lots of time with others of my family talking about how terrible I am and how I should/n't do x, y, and z.  All those folks are doing is upsetting the people that still love me and creating a rift between themselves and the ones who love me.

Don't they know that love is stronger than hate and lies?

I'm sorry you're going through this, Sunny.  My mother's siblings do that a lot with each other.  My sister & I decided that we would never do anything like that with anybody in the family & we are so much happier for it.  The ones who are talking about you are mainly hurting themselves.  When my uncles/aunts would try to tell me things about any of the others, I learned to tell them that I didn't want to hear anything negative about people who I love.   They stopped using me in that way.  I hope that the people who still love you can learn to do that also.  I love all of them & wish that they could see the good in each other so that they weren't such lonely old people now.

I've been estranged from my father for about 20 years now pretty much since he tried to shoot me with a gun.  Yeah.  That kind of estranged!  One of my sisters says "why can't you just forget about that?"  Hmmmm... well gosh... let's see... ummm... NO.  Anyway, she and he have become closer and so now she wants nothing to do with me.  But her kids, my other siblings, the rest of the family are close to me.  Her kids are still pretty close to her.  I tell them "I'm glad you all get along so well." or "Well, it seems like things are a little rough."  Or some such thing.  I never say bad things about the people that are nasty about me.  I'm soooooo much happier because of it. 

However, I do hate that it gets my nieces and nephews upset, not to mention I get these ridiculous calls from my other sisters "what is she talking about?"  They hear through the grapevine her nonsense.  They say things like "Doesn't she know we trust and believe you wayyyyyyy more than her.  She's crazy."  It makes me wanna slap her for upsetting my nieces and nephews.  Makes me wanna slap my dad for upsetting my other sibs.  Sigh. 

The best part is, I get to see how strong my family members are.  They just dismiss the stoopid stuff.  They really teach me a lot.  I'm very much a "walk away" kind of person.  They are all "get out of my face" kind of confrontational people... even the sweet ones.  I could learn a lot from them.
