Great list of books but i have not seen Master David Walker's book on Fire Play. It is somewhere around here and if i EVER have time to unpack some of my book boxes i will give the true name and some other ones i may have.

LadyPact -> RE: -=BDSM Book List=- (1/22/2011 5:20:06 PM)

For the curious, the book by Mr Walker is titled "Flames of Passion: Handbook of Erotic Fire Play".

auburnvixen -> RE: -=BDSM Book List=- (2/12/2011 4:46:18 PM)

I have enjoyed the short-story anthology Master/slave, edited by N.T. Morley - VERY hot stories, 30 tales told from the Master's POV, and 30 from the slave's. Another personal favorite is The Leather Daddy and the Femme, by Carol Queen. It's a hot, fun read.

For those into lactation - not my thing, but it seems that many do enjoy it - there is The Milk Bitch Trilogy by Frances Gaines Bennett.

petmonkey -> RE: -=BDSM Book List=- (2/12/2011 11:25:49 PM)

The Master/slave anthology lead to an excellent discussion about fantasies once upon a time for a Dominant and i.  i recommend it as well.

Living M/s; A Book for Masters, slaves, and Their Relationships Dan and Dawn Williams

This book is a valuable resource for those interested in real-time Total Power Exchange Relationships. Dan and dawn share the reality behind the lifestyle that so many only fantasize about. This is a book based on the experience of a couple, who has been living together as Master and slave for well over a decade and covers such topics as: challenges of living as a M/s couple; building your own M/s dynamic; changing terminology; the communities of M/s and BDSM and how they dance together (and apart); styles of D/s and M/s; Ms and polyamory; leather; orchestrating situations with multiple slaves, as well as many other topics.

NiceGuyNihilist -> RE: -=BDSM Book List=- (8/16/2011 3:11:59 PM)

The most enthralling work of BDSM fiction I ever read was The Book of Revelation, by Rupert Thomson. Three female nurses kidnap a free-spirited male dancer and break his will. If that sounds like the plot of something you'd quickly pass over on a free porn video site, read the book and be surprised.

By the way, I haven't owned the book in ten years, but if you want to go straight to the strap-on rape scene, it's on page 42.

"The Leatherman's Protocol Handbook" by John D Weal.

The summation from the author:

"The Leatherman's Protocol Handbook is not only about some of my personal journey since 1968, when I was collared to Master in "Old Guard" days, but also the changes that have occurred through the decades since then. A lot of our "Old Guard" leather history is documented in this book. It contains the protocols, positions, hand signals, and defines the differences between rituals, etiquette, and protocols. Included in the book are copies of ceremonies such as the gauntlet ceremony, various collaring ceremonies and the ultimate cover ceremony of Jeffrey Alan Payne, IML 2009. This book is not meant to be the bible of protocols but the documented history of my life with the "Old Guard" protocols that I personally can attest to through my journey. It will define the various leather titles and how they were achieved during those early days in "Old Guard". Much of this book has never been written about but only talked and fantasized about. Now, here is the documentation of what I lived for all to learn from. It tells of the hierarchy that once existed among the leather organizations. I discuss how to train a boy and how the "Old Guard" shows respect even to today's title holders and events. It also explains many of the military to leather protocols and compares them so all can understand how and why they existed. Since those early days of leather many things have changed. We lost so much of our history due to the HIV, HEP C and the Crystal Meth eras. For the first time we now have it all in one place with references to those early days by someone who has survived to write about it. Learn the three "S"s of leather life and watch how it will change your life forever!"

In My opinion, this was a very enjoyable book.  Not only is it a very detailed expression of protocols, it is filled with so much history.  How things were and how they have changed.  What was gained and what was lost.  All from a man who has a writing style that allows you into his world in both the past and the present.  Absolutely a must read for anyone who participates or is curious about the leather lifestyle.

I like this thread!

Definitely a bookmark.

I have read a good number of the books mentioned here, but I missed the pair about poly... I will have to get those. On the fiction side, I rather liked the Kushiel's series. I very nearly take umbrage at calling them girly! If the protagonist had been Josceline in the first trilogy, it would have been considered a just another epic fantasy novel with a kinky twist. I happen to think that Phedre was a more interesting character as a main character. She would not have faired as well as a supporting character. I may be slightly biased because less than a 1/4 through the first book, I wanted a "Phedre" of my own. By half way.... I really envied Delaunay.

The Naamah series (Carey's latest) was a really good series as well, though far less overt kinky. The kink influence is still very present throughout. Oh! The third one came out in June! I have another book to add to my list.

I've been looking for a list of books I should know about for sometime. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

could it possibly become a sticky? lots of people make reference to it.

njlauren -> RE: -=BDSM Book List=- (11/5/2011 10:21:19 AM)

Just saw this one as a newbie,I loved the list. Some of my personal favorites not on the list:

-Macho Sluts, by Patrick Califia
-The Beauty Series by Anne Rice

As far as the Gor books go, I realize a lot of people love them, and there is subculture that uses it as the basis for their style, and while acknowledging that, i saw what an earlier poster had written about being reluctant to recommend it, and I kind of agree. No, I don't believe as some seem to that the Gor books are a disaster to BD/SM, but rather that I have run into people who think Gor is a training manual or about bd/sm and seem to take almost a fundamentalist idea that 'this is how you do it' (which I blame them for, not the book). There used to be an old joke years ago about what do you do if you run into a dominant who says they learned everything from Gore, and the the answer is run away..... What some people forget IMHO is that these are books of fiction with a BD/SM like theme to them, and more importantly,they depict a fictional universe, not reality, which leaves out that there is a real world out there, with real lives and human emotions. Patterning real life BD/SM relationships, M/s relationships, after the books while taking reality into mind is cool IMO; but trying to live it in reality can lead to issues, and like the original posters, i know people, both M and s, who have gotten screwed up by trying to take it literally. One of the strong attractions to lifestyle BD/SM for me is the fantasy element of it, of being able to live into something so different while doing so living in 'the real world', so I perfectly understand the attraction of those into the Gor lifestyle, but I also respect there is a line between fantasy and reality. Fiction can inspire us, but reality has to guide us, too.

I just wanted to point out that folks should also think about who creates the works they love because if they don't eventually those folks will stop creating.

In my not a bit humble opinion, anyone creative will keep on creating whether they get paid or not.  That's what being creative means.

Having my books taken up by real publishers was great, but only because it means I know lots more people are reading what I wrote.  Of course it would be nice if it also made me lots of money, but I've been writing since before I could peck out words on a typewriter, and no way am I going to stop because it's not making me rich.

And speaking of my books ;)  Since plugging our own books is OK on this thread:

LonDom61 -> RE: -=BDSM Book List=- (10/21/2012 4:03:51 AM)

I read the OP. Haven't gotten through all the other pages (but have bookmarked this thread for reference).

I'm pretty sure, though, that these ones aren't anywhere on the list.

They are audiobooks, available for download without charge (though donations are encouraged) at podiobooks.com

Disclosure: I have nothing to do with the site, other than enjoying some of their publications. In addition to the BDSM ones listed below, they have a wide range, from thrillers to sci-fi to historical to, well, you name it.

The author of these books is (or was; haven't spoken with him in some time) an online buddy of mine. Doesn't matter. I'd still recommend them even if I didn't know him.

Diary of an S&M Romance (by Dollie Llama with Thorndaddy)
A slave's early experiences in BDSM and her search and, spoiler alert, finding and marrying her ideal Master.

Plump Buffet (by Thorndaddy)
A BDSM novel in the style of Fritz the Cat.
A cat (who works in an office) discovers his inner Dom, lets it come out to play, and ends up a sex-cult leader in a desert compound. All the characters are animals. Funny and cute.

How to Fuck a Woman's Brains Out (by Thorndaddy)
Essentially, how to Dom. Even with a vanilla woman. Focus on BBW.

It's been awhile since I downloaded these. I imagine they're still there. TD likes to keep his stuff out there. One of his mottos: He who dies with his art on the most hard drives, wins.

= = =

It's not a book, but if you like the above, you might want to check out their audio podcast, Submission and Coffee. In it, they reveal aspects of their life (kink & vanilla), discuss issues ranging from his work as a musician, film-maker and teacher to society, kink, events, cats, guns...

Oh yeah, and did I mention? They have lots of kinky sex. On the podcast.

It's no longer being produced. No longer on iTunes. But if you have torrent capability, you can find archives of all 180+ episodes. You don't torrent? Google it. It's probably out there somewhere.
