A random question popped into my mind last night while talking to a friend and I am bringing it up here, hoping ot find an answer. My apologies if this has been posted already. The search function is not being my friend today, lol.

Has anyone heard of some special protocol regarding initial online contact with nonslaves? By nonslave, I am referring to doms, subs, masters, anyone not a slave. I have never heard of it or seen it, but I am wondering if anyone else has.

Yeah, it's really Leonidas posting this. One of these days...

Oh yes, there are many, and they vary, and if you don't know them it will be obvious to everyone that you are just a poseur. But it's alright. You can make up your own as you go along, and accuse anyone who doesn't know yours of being a poseur. More often than not, they'll believe you and start following your protocol and calling anyone who doesn't follow it a poseur.

There was a time when we used to have fun with this. We'd just make some shit up and put it out there as gospel, just to see how quickly it would spread, and how far it would go. It was fun, but dumb, because some of the things that we put out there like that are still held to be gospel in some corners of the cyber-scene nearly a decade later.

The straightest, most simple answer that I can give you is that if you meet someone who gets offended because you didn't follow some online protocol, consider that a big gift-wrapped sign from him that says "You don't want to know me". Thank him, and go on your merry way.

Oops, I should have been more clear. This protocol was not imposed upon me in any way; it was simply something that came up in conversation with a good friend, something we were wondering about.

Funny thing about creating your own gospel; I saw that happen a couple of times in Austin and people took it and MADE it gospel. It's amazing how quickly people line up to jump off the cliff, huh? lol

Thanks for the info. I'll keep it in mind.

[laugh] I think you have the more viable approach.

I had an unpleasant exchange with an offline (well probably an online Gorean who wandered offline) Gorean at a Fetish Fleamarket a while back. He discovered the "kill 'em" response works both ways.

One of the problems in role-play is that protocols can get far too elaborate and are not really workable in a real life Gorean lifestyle situation… it’s a case of been there tries that and it didn’y work so back to the drawing board… So a few cluse regarding real life protocols when meeting Gorean Lifestyle folk.. Know if the person is Free or slave. Good manners will go a long way. Respect for their lifestyle (you don’t have to embrace it, just respect that this is their domain as you would other peoples). Explain that you are not a Gorean Lifestyler and don’t understand all that goes on. Ask questions, but save any debates till a more appropriate situation. If some one comments how delightful you would look in a collar, smile and thank them for the compliment and tell then no thankyou (Unless you want to be owned by them). If some dweeb tells you to kneel and obey him or similar asinine comments, smile (the huge plastic smile is an excellent tool), than them for their time and leave their company. If the son of a sleen, tries pushing it the comment “You may be a Master but you aren’t my Master” is a good one which they really can’t do much about. Generally try to enjoy your time with them.. Gorean Lifestylers are really Humans too, it is a misconception that we have two heads (on our shoulders) and an over sized prong/talliwacker or whatever terminology you prefer.

i just felt the time to bring up my pet peeve here, somone seam to be blending RPG whit real life alot, i had this problem when playing in a Gorean role play, i played this timid former slave seamstress, now learing to be free, ok all well, i liked my charecter than somone comes along and blends real life into it, and i get all confused.

RPG means role playing game, you take a role, it is not real life, in an role playing game you can play a huge warrior man even if you yourself is a tiny woman and the other way around. RPG games is for fun, it is fiction. Sara Michelle Gellar is not a superpowerd killing machine that keep the world safe by killing monsters, even if she play that in a TV seris.

Ofcourse protocol will be different between RPG and real life, becouse RPG is a game period.

*goes back over her posting to find where I was asking about RPGs*

OK, didn't think I had.

Pet peeves are great, nephandi, but yours isn't helping me here.

IronBear; thanks for the info. I didn't know to make the distinction between "free" and "slave". That should prove to be helpful.
