Curiosity is not becoming in a kajira. It's mentioned a dozen or so times in the Gor books. It's often quoted, and somtimes misused. It doesn't mean that natural curiosity isn't a valued trait in a slave girl. If you look at how it is used in the books, the meaning is clear. It means that it is unbecoming for a slave to inquire into the affairs of her master, or the free in general. It isn't her place, and it isn't her business. She may get away with it from time to time, but she always does so at the risk of punishment.

Goreans, I think, have a strong and uniform sense of propriety when it comes to what is and isn't a slave's place. It sometimes runs us afoul of the sensiblities of folks whose underlying, working assumption is that underneith it all, a slave is still at the end of the day equal to her master, and entitled to the same consideration as a free woman. I'd be interested in hearing what the other Gorean free here think of this saying, and the principal that it represents that a slave who inquires into the business of the free steps out of her place.

greetings For one thing is is never the place of a slave to assume she is equal to her Master or to a Free Woman. The very nature is that one is on top the other on the bottom, even BDSM would agree to that I am sure. I do agree by nature a slave is curious. A kajira wants to be the best to her Master and it is an on going process. In order to please she must ask what is it that will please her Master and that is inquiring into a Free personal business. But I think it is not something a slave should be punished for. After all she is trying to be the best and must ask what is her Master pleasures.

Heh. Now if I had said the exact same thing, I'd be getting a deluge of defensive crap about how outsiders just don't understand Gor.

Possibly not. After all, a slave saying "How may I please you better, Master?" is not something normally punished for. Very few men would do so unless there was another underlying cause. On the other hand "Master, can I see the check book so I can see how you spend your money?" might earn a girl a slap. It is not that we ask questions.. it's that we know what to ask and what not to ask, usually. "Master, what are your caste codes?" is in the realm of "do not ask". "Master, what do you want for dinner?" or "Master, can we go to the movies tonight if it pleases you?" would both normally be acceptable. :)

Curiousity is channeled into different areas for us.

Greetings Masters, Mistresses and slaves...

*raises hand*... Twas me. The ever curious one. I was the little girl who got that talking dolly for Christmas and tore it apart trying to find out where the sound came from. My friends were just happy to sit and talk to it while pouring tea.

The original "why" child...the one that drives most parents batty. Knowing what to ask, when to ask it and even in some instances the fact it shouldn't be asked at all, was one of the most difficult things for me to grasp. Coming to an understanding that Master doesn't wish me kept in the dark, however, he also won't waste time discussing issues that he knows have no pertinent effect on my life, is something I struggled with. Truth be told, questions still come up from time to time...*grins*... and as one who asks things that sometimes border the line, I am soooooo grateful that men take the time to reel me in.

I think nena said it so well, curiousity is not a bad thing, just our subject matter needs to be perhaps thought out a little differently, as we are NOT on equal footing with our owners. (And yes nena...I *can* picture your owners reaction to hot coffee spilled in his lap... *winces*)

Ohhhh edana, did you get snow? That storm we had on Tue., aside from hail, lightening and some very intense thunder gave us some of the fluffy stuff and of course I had to run outside and take snapshots, :)

Best of wishes,

lisa{Sea's}

There is a clear difference between useful curiosity in serving a Master's needs-and curiosity merely to be an intrusive *busybody*. A big difference between slaves and subs, is that slaves are also not allowed to manipulate the Master's emotional state with drama and prying..and the standard passive agressive bullshit will backfire badly when a slave tries it. The sub will try to shrug it off as "communicating".

I'd bitchslap a roomate for going through my things that didn't concern them, why would my property be any different? After all,I'm not looking to be owned by a "subbie".

Hi lisa,

No we didn't get snow! aww i am jealous. we just got rain, and not enough of it. I wish it would rain for weeks. We could use it.

I used to live in New Mexico, we would have the most brilliant lightening storms. the kind that turn the sky different colors. I miss that.

slavegirl,

a slaves place is at the beginning of the day is at her Owners feet and at the end of the day she is still at her owners feet....no where in between is she an equal to her Owner.........a slaves place isnt in the affairs of the free...she is there to serve nothing more or nothing less
