Tal Leonidas,

quote:

As for it being "truth" who gives a fuck?  We're here to discuss lifestyle issues, no who did what to whom.

I believe that was exactly the point, and also the reason for not naming names.

Apart from that, I agree, although I would note that, in my experience, a significant part of the reason why BBSes were less prone to those difficulties was the combination of a smaller community and a comparatively high barrier to entry. Which sort of reinforces some earlier comments on humans not being suited to the emerging anthill model of life.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Uh, if truth isn't required, what sort of discussion about what sort of lifestyle is it exactly?

A fair question at times, Michael, and one I keep revisiting.

I have found no better answer than: a human lifestyle.

Truth is in the mouth of the dragon of entropy.

Health,
al-Aswad.

And Bull may i have a cuddle from those big strong arms?
Pretty please

Sure but be careful what you wish for....

Sometimes when I cuddle with pretty little wenches I get rather excited and bones have been know to crack...hair ripped out...lips bit open...nipples nipped and general sexual chaos might ensue...

The only problem with that is that if someone posts a "hypothetical" based on some recent drama from another venue, the people he or she is posting about will jump in, and even if names weren't named to begin with, it won't really matter.  The end result is that the drama is dragged onto the board.

Yes, both BBSes in the 80s and the Usenet in the 90s were, by comparison, more focused, with a higher signal-to-noise ratio.  Then AOL opened a gateway to the 'net.  That was the end of civil discussion as we knew it.

I agree with Leonidas though, beatings tend to solve some things and peace is often a more valuable prize than justice.

Hi Orion,

I must disagree with this.
Peace at the *cost* of Justice can be a dangerous prize, won.....or would it be a loss?

Take care,
Maah

Oh, one can pontificate and loft thoughts out as big as tits.

Consider your children, our future, and I am gonna assume that we all love our offspring....

how often does peace prevail over justice there?
How often is one charged with disturbing the peace in this country, when what they were going down to get was justice?

I don't see justice as a big word, day-to-day...........lotta fluff, like paris hilton.

I can; I think, without too much disconcertion, or disconcertation (if you all are not too fuckin' pedantic..) say that swearing, vulgarity, crudeness. bathos, scurrility and uncouthness becomes me.

There is some artifice (which I freely admit that I don't comprehend) that makes this word vulgar and that word generally accepted.

Oh, Daddy!!! Take me in the back--- is somehow more mellifluous than, say;  OK, bitch, head down ; ass up, I am gonna snatch me some dirty, dirty gamboo!!!

No, I would see vulgarity as the first bastion: the vanguard, and not the alamo.

Why?

I guess I am saying that this is a specious argument.

'apparent' peace quite often (and in the main, frankly) wins the day over 'apparent' justice..............

I mean, it ain't gonna be you take the trash out, half way to the garbage can, hand me the baton and I will finish the relay for the gold.

Have you ever went to the courthouse and got an 'equitable' ruling?  I have.

Justice, is Monty Hall: "who's got a coathanger in their sponge bob panties?, I'll give you $200 for it."...

Unless you got the sponge bobs, play it where it lies.

Greetings Maah,

Your thoughts are often echoed in this world, and so many rush around seeking justice. The problem I see is that everyone has their own idea of what justice is, and in the end neither justice nor peace are found. Peace is often a justice in and of itself. Another way to look at it, is that I define justice in my household, and it is often peace. When someone disturbs the tranquility and security of my home, and they use justice or truth as an excuse, they can find themselves seeking both on a mountain top.

Live well,
Orion
