ORIGINAL: jlf1961 How can anyone declare it a 'good morning?' Do they have a crystal ball? Some sort of divine ability to foresee the future? Lets face reality people, until we hit 12:00:01 on the clock, we have no idea if the morning is going to be a disaster or not. Until then, we are still subject to the whims of nature, who, for reasons unknown to the rest of us, prefers to launch cataclysms, disasters, and chaos BEFORE noon. Do a bit of research, the deadliest natural disasters have all happened before noon. I therefore submit that instead of saying 'good morning,' we should say 'morning' or maybe 'pray that it is a good morning.' Of course, this does not even touch on the human causes of a bad morning, usually beginning with someone uttering the words, "We have to talk," or "I want a divorce," or "Its not you," (This is BS, it is always whoever 'you' is) or "I need some space" which translated means, I want to dump you and sleep with someone else, and, given the present economic situation, the wonderful, "Due to circumstances, we are forced to phase back our staff." Now, considering I am still working on my first pot of coffee, and, quoting the famous philosopher, Garfield, "I am NOT a morning person." Ahem!! *koff, koff* *adjusts pedantic hat a bit* The phrase "good morning" is a shortened version of the longer version of "I wish you a good morning". Or words to that effect. So when someone says "Good morning" to someone else, it is a bit like a prayer that you will each have a good morning. At the stroke of 12:01, the greeting becomes "Good afternoon", with that also standing for the longer version, etc, etc, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. I now return you to your regular silliness. Thank you for your attention. *takes a bow & leaves the lectern* *steps back on lectern for just a moment* Please remember that the Pretty Big Earthquake of 1989 happened at 5:04pm, which would have been just after the greeting would have officially changed to "Good evening". *wanders off to quit my day job*
