Granted there are some medications that are exclusive and the doctor really has no choice but to prescribe it. But in other cases, where there is a choice, the doctors are dropping the ball.

A pharmaceutical rep comes in bearing gifts for the the office staff and free samples of the drugs they are pushing. The doctors think they are doing the patient a huge favor by prescribing a medication and handing over a few boxes of the samples to get the patient started. But what they fail to realize is the cost to the patient when the samples are gone can be astronomical. In some cases the patient doesn't realize it is their right to call the doctor and ask for a cheaper alternative. In other cases, the cases the pharmaceutical companies LOVE...the patient has already responded to the medication and does not want to change medications for fear of backsliding.

The doctors really need to take the time to look at the cost of some of the medications they are prescribing.

Ya wanna know the kicker in what holly just said?.... the reps come in with food and gifts....for the doctors....and those really really supercool pens....the ones with all the bells and whistles and cool colors and weird ways to click them???...Yeah, when the rules changed to keep this corruption down....guess what the pharmaceutical companies decided to do away with.....the pens....
The food, free trips and cool swag...still there....the pens...poof, gone!
Who gets screwed?...the nurses!
Oh, wait....and the patients too, i suppose....but come on! i want my pens back!

Yanno Perse...if the doctors would just start to ask for a price list before accepting the loot, the pharmaceutical companies might get the hint. Most doctors do not want to see their patients have to choose between meds and meals...but they need to be aware of what these drugs cost.

Can you tell i DISPISE pharmaceutical companies?

Hugs perse the pen whore. I have a big collection of doctors office pens. I always get a lot of pill samples from my doc. Im also going to a VA doc. The perscriptions there are only $8 no matter what pills you get.
