Throw in cats and ferrets and now you know why for the longest time the good ornaments went on the top of the tree and the cheap, unbreakable dollar-store ones went on the bottom half. Then they all learned to climb to the top of the tallest trees and I had to be careful no matter where I put the good ornaments.

(Ever walked into the living room and see 3 ferrets poking from the top of a swaying 7' Christmas tree as the cats stared up in fascination????)

And my guess is i will see the two yr old at the top of the tree, swinging back and forth, yelling YEEEEEE-HAAAAAA!!!!!!

Will you tell me the secret of keeping a couple of lively  Jack Russell Terrors - yes - terrors, not terriers, from thinking (and trying to steal) the balls at the bottom of the tree are toys for them to play with?

pure.. keep the tempting things high, put disposable things low and easily pulled off (like just SIT them on the branches)

There is no secret, I had 2 cocker spaniels in the mix as well. All I can say is to find cheap, easily replaceable ornaments that you don't get too attached to - it's what I did since the damned zoo seemed to think the Christmas tree was their personal play toy. Instead of fighting it, I just planned for it and it made my life a helluva lot easier. 

(And yes, I know they're Terrors, I think you're one of the bravest people - or stupidest, maybe both - to have multiple Jack Russells. Gawds, what little nuclear power plants of energy they are!) *grins and winks*
