Greetings Masters, Mistresses and slaves...

Merry wishes to all the free and their property for a happy, safe and memory filled Halloween eve. May the little tots be productive and fill the rooms with laughter, but most of all...be safe.

Today is a crazy world. When I was a wee one, (yes, I was young...once), we were turned loose as soon as the sun set and told to be home by 10 or so. No parents followed, there was no concern of being snatched off the street or harm. Parents still went through the candy, throwing away anything that looked "funny".. (I still think that was their way of getting hold of the good stuff)..but there was not a feeling of dread, or the constant worry. (other then the trips to the dentist that were sure to follow)

Nowadays, if I had a child, it would be under locked guard. I had to shake my head when it was announced on the local news that registered pedaphiles were "on curfew" tonight. Just how do they propose to do this? It's not as if they all live in one building!
We are using the honor system? Ummm...these are people who have molested a child, is there honor to be had?

My best of wishes to all those enjoying children and their merriment tonight...may everyone come away with lots of fond memories and a few tons of candy! (someone has to keep the dentist in business!)

Greetings, lisa:

I share some of your memories and observations. I am old enough and from a small enough town that I remember things being much different from how they are now. Like you, we would head out at dark, usually unaccompanied by grownups, and be expected home around 10. I also remember that some of the homemade treats were the very best things to get. Things like popcorn balls and caramel-dipped apples; things that would probably get promptly tossed nowadays....if anyone were dumb enough to give them out.

So, BOO! Right back at ya. And: TRICK OR TREAT....SMELL MY FEET!!

Last night, we had a number of local kids Trick or Treating in our street.... No words of mine can tell you what a suprise this was and how wondercfull it was. In Australia we generally dont do much for halloween except for grown up parties in costume and usually too much booze and some illicit bonking... I honestly hope that Trick or Treat will grow here for I have happy memories of the halloweens i have spent in various parts of the US.

just got in very sticky and a w/ tummy ache.
i'm one of those parents that steals their kids candy,lol.

not all of it,lol, just the taffy.

we've been celebrating for 3 days now in various ways. its much different from when i was small but the kids still have a great time.
we have 'trunk or treat' now.......pickups get in a circle and decorate the beds and give candy out at several of the local areas.....then hot dogs and chips ,cotton candy,etc........

Just got back in from T&T here. Master found a jackpot of a area for it. Several blocks on either side of the street all lit up, and more kids out than could shake a stick at. It was a very wonderful heart warming sight to see, and the lil one had a great time. :)
