Greetings,

I am working my way through the Gor novels and understand the importance of the philosophy and its application in the lifestyle. I would like to get the communities opinion on what the key Gorean protocols are. If you were at a Gorean event what protocols would you expect to see between Masters and their slaves?

Those wiser than I in the Gorean ways will surely answer.
I'm sure the venerables, such as Malkinius, ShreveportMaster,  xBullx, or OrionTheWolf, will have much to contribute, should they choose to do so.
Most of the protocols are reasonably self-evident from the context within the book they occur in.
The Masters I've listed above are Men whose opinions and wisdom I greatly respect: in some cases they have been of much assistance to Me in My ongoing study of Gor.

First and formost, what I expect to see between a slave and her master is, complete obedience . When there is that, all the rest falls so wonderfully in place.

I would not expect much, as each relationship is different, I would also not care how a man and his slave interacted whit one another, but I would find it strange if she talked back to him and behaved disrespectfully. I would expect when the slave interacted whit other free for her to be respectful and remember that slave was her status, not just in her relationship but in the community, that means if a free ask her to get a cup of coffee the slave would say yes Master/Mistress and do it, not say you are not my Master so fuck of. Generally obedience and respect is towards all free is what I would expect at a Gorean gathering.

Every once in a while a question like this pops up on various fora.  It's annoying.  Here's why:

The question is akin to wanting to know all about the various rituals of a religion, without any of the understanding BEHIND the rituals.

The "protocols" are WINDOW DRESSING.  The only protocols that matter at all are the one's between a particular man and his particular girl(s). (Tho' I can't imagine that "Do what I tell you to do when I tell you to do it." isn't on the top of any such list.)

I see this so often in newcomers to Gorean Life.  They get caught up in the rituals, they don't bother taking in the philosophy.  That's just shallow thinking.  Who gives a flyin' flip?

But for those who insist on taking in their knowlege in internet-packet sized sound bytes, here are some common protocols and their meaning:

1/  Girl on her knees, hands on her thighs, palms up:       Means:   Girl wants attention.
2/ Girl on her knees, hands on her thighs, palms down:   Means:    Girl wants attention.
3/ Girl on her knees, hands behind her heck                     Means:     Girl wants attention.
4/ Girl standing in the doorway, leg wrapped around the jamb:    Means:  Girl wants attention.
5/ Girl lying on the floor hands **** her sides.                    Means:     Girl wants attention.
....
Come to think of it, of all documented 753 possible positions and protocols, they all mean the same thing, with the exception of:
526/ Girl hiding in a tree in the back yard.                       Means: Girl backed the Jag in to a truck in the CostCo parking lot! [:****]

There is no bible of protocols, and like all D/s dynamics they vary from couple to couple. However you should find that a slave in this lifestyle is at a minimum respectful of her Dominant, and often all Dominants in general unless directed otherwise by her owner.

Sounds about right.  If she's going through all the trouble of assuming a position it means she wants it to be recognised.  I would laugh so hard to see a flouncy slavegirl all decked out in bells kneeling around in The Proper Position whose Master comes home from work and just ignores her. Like doesn't even acknowledge her presence.  Just walks past and goes about his business, no more interested in talking to that property than he would be to talk to a chair.

I'd totally film it, and zoom in on her facial tics and expressions as she wondered if she should get up and say something. In fact I'd make it a contest without telling them.  Whoever sits there the longest without breaking position wins something really awesome. Bonus points if she has to pee and holds it, double bonus points if she can't hold it but still doesn't move.

Wow I just realised something. I'm a sadist.  But come on. That would be hilarious. Fox TV needs to hire me.

i also cannot agree with this.  If a girl takes a  position, chances are it is because she is required to at that point, not because she is clamoring for attention. Perhaps some Masters don't require it, but many do, including mine.

Actually to a point I would have to agree.  Ya who doesn’t want positive attention?  I mean really.  

Think about it, slave makes herself all pretty, ya may well be in the parameters of her owner’s wishes, but she does it any ways hoping to be please.  She does what ever household ritual for example kneeling in x position by the front door, he walks in and ignores her is kind of a let down.  She wants to be recognized, hell my own cat wants to be lol.  Think day after day facing being totally ignored would be difficult for most human beings.

So we do X because we know it will make Y happy.  We may not expect a flowing thank you, in fact we may not expect much at all, but we sure like acknowledgment of “good job”, “thank you” or any other sort of attention that says, “watching, like it.”

I also find that slaves in particular seem to want and crave attention more.  Maybe it is part of their personality or not but few generally don’t want to be ignored.  They thrive on “good job.”  Most simply gush on it.  They then seek to work ever harder to please because they will in turn receive positive attention for doing it.  Ya, seeking attention.  In fact when attention is not forth coming they may well act out to seek attention, bad attention is attention to.

Human nature is human nature.  In fact that is the drive behind us all.

To use your example of a cat.  Is it your cat that determines how and when it is praised, pet, or even acknowledged?  Or do you make that decision, when you are ready? 

A slave is really no different in that,  perhaps some girls are trained better than cats.  While the owner has the great responsibility of maintaining the girl both physically and mentally, he has no obligation to acknowledge her on anything other than his terms and this also includes his timeline.  That being said, I enjoy interacting with my girl and do so all of the time, she also knows that if I come in the door and don't acknowledge her that she should continue doing the things she needs to get done.  That if and when I am ready to, I will call her over.

Anyways, to answer the original poster.  While there are some beautiful exchanges and expected behaviours in the books, most of the men I know (myself included) have our own preferences as to what "rituals" are followed.  I guess the key, if there is one, protocol is to behave as your status allows, for a girl to know that she is a slave, this would be true in the home as well as at a public gathering.

I would never recommend doing something simply because it's the done thing, as I rather suspect I've said before. If something is worth doing, there will be a reason behind it that makes it worth doing. Find out what that reason is.

Yes, I agree with that. However that is not what I was understanding the other woman to be saying. I was totally unable to read/understand her post.

You have expressed yourself in a way I can understand and yes, I agree slaves work hard to nbe found pleasing and when that is ignored it hurts. The reaction to that of course could bring forth a not so pleasing behavior because as you said even bad attention is attention.
I see nothing wrong with a slave expecting at least a good job girl, or...well done..however it is not owed to her of course, but being the human beings they are, they need that acknowledgment from time to time.

A slave "expecting"????  I would say a slave would not "expect", crave maybe,  want absolutely, hope sure, but expect?  Nope, not expect.  Now a cat expects - a dog craves.  Just to me a huge difference.
