Many Goreans can be a bit stuck up, no ofense meant, and can bash anyone not of their lifestyle, paticulary pepole that are interested in the lifestyle and perhaps do a little bit here and a little bit there from it, but most of them tend to be nice pepole that are a yoy to talk to. i dont think it is somthing wrong whit feeling that ones way is the best way, the problems begin when one try to make others fell that way to, if they want to or not.

Tal all!

It's been my experience that those of us that accept the "Gorean Ideal" in real life tend to be less um.... pissy than the strictly online or roleplaying variety of Goreans. Virtually every real lifer I have met has been exceedingly polite, willing to help people understand their philosophy, and happy to help people gain knowledge of the philosophies and structures we hold as dear.

For Goreans, Gor is about the base element of the social dynamic for the most part. BDSMers that aren't aware often mistake it for following a sci fi novel series to the letter. I have heard the analogy of Goreans = Trekkies often in reference to this. And from an outside viewpoint I suppose that IS what they would see. However I think the biggest reason Goreans are less tolerant of the BDSM crowd is more because in a lifestyle that touts "Tolerance" and "Understanding" of peoples personal choices and beliefs.... there are a lot of BDSMers that are more than willing to look down their noses at Goreans based on nothing but hearsay and rhetoric. I can't even begin to tell you how often I have heard these phrases.... "Goreans are just mysoginistic jerks that have no feelings" or "Goreans have no sense of humor, and are cruel bastards". However many of these same people whine and complain about the vanilla crowds saying EXACTLY the same thing about them. Rather hypocritical to some extent. So as a result, Goreans do tend to be a bit defensive from time to time. And the reasons? Well, the argument ends up as a "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" for the most part. Both sides of the issue make their mistakes.

Goreans as a rule are more ritualistic, self disciplined, and less inclined to tolerate acting out on emotions that drive us to losing control. Anger, jealousy, petulance.... they all exist in our lives... but Goreans try to temper these things with Honor, and rationality. Its a different way of looking at things. And most of what is misunderstood about Goreans is based on misconceptions, or incidents that occur with people that may not entirely grasp the pragmatism of what some of us believe to be "truly Gorean". Again.... I am being wordy. But I hope I was able to deliver a clear picture of my personal view on it.

Safe paths all!

Oh belive you me, the pepoles that say they are most tolerant are often the least tolerant ones, like for example many wiccans, many of them are wonderful pepole, but some of them go balistic if you ahve another wiewpoint than them, as a left hand path i have gotten some heat from them pelnty of times, occultist often have a tendency to be quite agressive when it comes to others that have even slight different opinions. i mean i have seen arguments where pepole nearly ahve torn one another apart over the question of if self initiation is as valid as group initiation. But of all my years on occut message boards and forums, i have never been redused to tears and not managed to go back to the forum for days, i have never encounterd the kind of close minded, mean, spiteful behavior that several members of collarme have, and while a few of them are Gorean or say they are, a good portion are on the bdsm boards so yes, i agree whit you, bdsm pepole can be judgemental and mean, but that is only a smalest fraction of them, just as it is the smalest fraction of Goreans that is, most bdsm pepole, just like most pepole of nearly any group are kind, good pepole.
