Greetings Ars,

Great post.

It has definately been my experience that it is harder for women to gain the respect of men. BUT oh how much sweeter the feeling once you have achieved such.

Another easily confused idea is that "not equal to" means that one or the other is "less than" or "greater than" and there are some pretty obvious moments in the books where JN specifically states that neither gender is greater or less than the other. Both are absolutely necessary and when being true to their nature, both are complimentary to one another.

Also, there are different types of respect. I think a man can respect a woman as much as another man but not in the same way. And I think that we often try to over-simplify things. Its also easy to say that respect is earned but then turn around and get offended when it isn't simply offered.

Greetings Maahsatti

Very true, respect one have earned is far sweeter and mean far more than one simply given.

By the way your new picture is very nice. I just had to comment on it.

I wish you well

Greetings opposingtwilight

I agree a man and a woman is of equal importance in the greater picture and not equal do not mean women are less worth, equal after all means same as, and that we are not, we are not the same as men. And that is one thing the Gorean lifestyle is about, men being men and women being women, we have different needs and wants. Nothing is universal off course. Some women are very similar to men and the other way around, but for the most part we are very different and should be as we are.

Here I separate common courtesy that is offered to everyone and respect. If I say good day Sir I hope your vacation was good to my neighbor that do not necessary mean I respect him, it means he is another human being and deserve that I am polite. Also there is a difference between respecting a position and respecting a person. I respect the position policeman, so unless their orders are very strange I do what the police say, that do not mean I offer respect to the person wearing the uniform. When I was a slave I said Master and Mistress to all free, that do not mean I personally respected every free. I respected their place.Personal respect. That I respect a person for who they are, that is something somone have to earn, no matter who they are.

I wish you well.

Thats an interesting point of view, Ars. Respecting a position ...

I respect police officers because their ultimate job is to protect the innocent. (Way simplified but you get the idea.) So, yeah ... If they tell me to do something, even if I don't really see the point in it, I will generally respect that authority because I want to serve their purpose. I want to be protected! -grin-

I don't generally view dominants in the same regard, however. (And yes, there is a difference between being a "dominant" and being a Gorean Free Person.) I'll be polite to most anyone, even after they provoke otherwise. It takes a lot to get me to lose my cool. But respect ... Thats a different matter altogether. I personally don't offer respect to someone simply because they are a Gorean Free Person.

I'm kind of in a weird position on this forum; neither Free nor slave but I like the Gorean philosophies regardless ... Anyway.

There are some people that simply compell you to respect them. They don't demand it because they don't have to. There is just something about them that stirs that feeling within those around them. In my experience, this sort of person is usually male, though there have been women who have stirred that deep sense of respect as well. They compell others to respect them for who they are, to use your words.

 Greetings Ars,
Nice new profile, it's nice also to finally see a pic of that lil fuzz face you're so fond of. (and she does look very cuddly)
I have to agree, Babs new pic is simply delicious :-) But then again, I enjoy her regardless...and I have a thing for redheads.
A very astute observation on your part that often gets overlooked, Respect for a position that someone holds, versus respect for that person as an individual. In example. I had absolutely no respect for Former U.S. President Bill Clinton, but if I had met him while he was in office, I nonetheless would have addressed him as Mr. President, as oppossed to what I felt like calling him :-) You can respect the office, or position without having to respect the person holding it.
Nice to see you back again.
                                                I wish you well,
                                                                         Shreve

Hi Shreve,

I absolutely agree with you.
I feel the same way as far as protocol goes with Goreans and addressing them in and with their proper station.
Personally I do not feel or expect a non Gorean slave address me as Mistress, but if they are indeed a sub in their chosen lifestyle, that they address me with FW before my name. I do not feel it necessarily shows respect towards me, but the station I hold.I feel the exact same way for the Gorean men, if one is a sub in any lifestyle, those men by status deserve to be addressed accordingly.

always much care,
Babs

PS. Of course, once a man or woman has been found and seen to be a complete fake and decietful player, then not thing one should be afforded them, status or not.If t hat person comes forth with an honest apology and explination though and does his or her best to make ammends, then IMO it is up to the individual who has been lied to and hurt to either forgive or not.

Thank you Ars and to all who have made kind comments about my new pic. Of course as I have explained, that pic is when I was 25 and is up to be an inspiration to me to better myself thru weight loss and other conditions.

*smiles*

Take care all
