Oh, the implications of that statement. 

I'm not that much into long, long nails but they do feel good when being racked down the back.  I think part of the reason you may not see more of it is the type of play they may be involved in.  A broken nail down into the quick is a real pain, and not in a good way.

I do a lot of typing and if mine are much longer than what I have right now, they hit the wrong keys all the time.

Try them yourself sometime.
 
It's the maintenance.  If you have natural nails, you want to keep them all in graduated lengths and each hand the same.  One broken nail messes up the whole appearance. (If you are a perfectionist.. and I am).
 
So then you go to your local nail tech.  Acrylic is durable but the edges are blunt to where you can't even get a good back scratch of them.  I'd have my nail tec bevel the edge but that just makes the tips more breakable. 
 
It gets costly:
$55 -$75 for a full set to get started.  Then every 2-3 weeks you have to go in for fills for the outgrowth -another $25 bucks.  This takes anywhere from 1.5-2 hours sitting there to get this done.  Even if your slave gifts it to you.....It's BORING.  (so, I made HIM get manicures )

Status: offline 		I have very brittle nails that just won't grow very long. I have gotten acrylics and I really like the look, but as another poster mentioned, they don't scratch well. Also when I had acrylics if I didn't get them filled about every 3 weeks the tip would grow out and just looked ridiculous. I had to remember to call the nail salon about a week before I needed to have them done just to make sure they could get me in! Oh and that's not to mention how awful it feels when the tech has to pry an old nail off. yuck!

Even when I had acrylics I had short ones. I do a lot of work with poly clay and long nails are not condusive to the work. I also find them a lot of trouble to type and use the phone and calculator with. Now if could just live a life of leisure and never have to lift a finger to type again maybe......

I’m glad I read further down the thread before posting. This is what  I thought too.
 
I have naturally long nails (most of the time). They break, chip ect. They also are a pain to type with, open pop cans and do other things. Plus you also have to take care of them another pain. Some days I wonder if it’s worth having them this long.

Status: offline 		I keep mine about 3/4 of an inch long off the finger tip. I like them long I believe it is a symbol of status, and I still do alot of typing.

I have natural nails as I work for a living.  I don't actually TRY to keep them long, closer to what nail salons call the 'active' length. 

I had a girlfriend do the 'Dragon Lady' nails for me once upon a long time ago when those were still fashionable.  HATED 'EM!  I couldn't even pull up my pantyhose wearing those things!   They felt like little levers glued to my hands prying my real nails off at the root.  And everywhere I went, people - both sexes - begged "OH!  Scratch my back!"  I generally swore at them and tucked my fake nails into the palms of my hands protectively. 

My natural nails are VERY sharp.  Way better for back scratches, and digging into tender boy parts... short enough for 'nick-less' ass play.  Perfect.

Status: offline 		You never know how long my nails are gonna be, it depends on what project I have going on at the time. But normally they are fairly long, yeah, they do interfer with typing but I'm pretty good at hitting the backspace key. I'm so used to them being long that I can and do work on all kinds of stuff without even thinking about it. The biggest pain is picking up small stuff. Maintenance isn't an issue, I really don't do anything to them unless I have to file one on occasion to smooth out a snag or something. And I don't care if they are all a uniform length. I do have to trim them pretty often, they tend to get rediculously long. But I like having long nails and they are my favorite weapon.

I have had long acrylic nails since 1989 and have never had a problem scratching and leaving marks.  In fact, it is something I LOVE to do!  My nails are probably my favorite toy.
 
My natural nails are not strong so I get acrylics.  I have a standing appointment every two weeks to maintain my nails.  Since I have somewhat of a nail fetish, it is worth it to me, but there is time and cost involved.  
 
I have found the perfect length for me where I can perform my daily work activities (which involve a fair amount of time at a keyboard).  When I have tried to have them longer, they interfered with my activities and tended to break. 
 
Long nails can be an impediment to certain BDSM activities.  For example, it is not as easy to fist safely if you have long nails.  I have been told it is possible with proper wrapping, but since fisting doesn't interest me much to begin with, I've never pursued it.  I was also told at a demo that it is not wise to do fireplay with acrylic nails (though I went to another demo with a different presenter who said it was okay if you were careful and actually showed me how).
 
So for me, long nails are well worth the time, effort and expense.  I can readily see how that wouldn't be true for everyone, though.

They are too high-maintenance.
They make typing extremely difficult.
They are not practical.
