Greetings kisshou,

I think when people are told to read the books, I have to blame myself on this point as well, they are not given the reason as to why.  Just told to read the books over and over again might have them think that us Goreans are a bunch of stupid people that can't read books in the first read.  I think that we should tell them as well that the philos and the deep reasoning behind the words has to be fathomed not in reading the novels once or twice but about 10 or more times.

Be well.

It looks like another example of external meddling, not mention the condescending and sanctimonious bullshit from every angle.

Greetings Master Bull,

was your post addressing my idea that a (faq) "sticky" at the top of the section be about reading the books or was it just your feelings to their

being any sort of faq? What I was proposing is not a faq but a sticky at the top explaining that to learn someone needs to read the books many times and why.

well wishes

*a little comment from a former slave in Gor (online).  When i arrived at Gor for the first time - i knew close to nothing - but was introduced to it by a Dom (a Dom where i met Him - but a well respected Master in His Gorean world). i observed quietly for as long as i could, but i took to it immediately, it spoke to my heart and i truly loved spending time there - and learn more as i went along. i had not read any books - so the training i received was step by step - and i was hungry for more. i have read some of the books since, but i actually enjoyed more to talk to the Masters and slaves and learn from them...To me it was natural to bend to the Male - i knew my place and it was indeed freeing...Sadly - the place i was living got ruined by Dorm Doms and princesses - and i left...smiles...i miss it sorely - and i hope there are good places out there still.*

edited a tad.

OK, here's an addition to the FAQ thread:

If it's online, it isn't Gorean---it's just fantasy role play.

Hope that helps.

Greetings,

This is why I think the FAQ or "sticky" on the top of this forum should only address this one topic .

1) How to purchase legal copies of the books
2) Why it is important to read the entire series, not once but many times
3) How to read a book and extract the philosophical teachings from it

The answers to those questions will answer any question that can be posed in a faq.

well wishes
kisshou

Hi kisshou,

I just had a quick question about #3.  How would you teach someone to extract philosophical meaning out of a book when they can't even be bothered to google "Gor" or use the search function?

Regards,

Trapped

No Kiss, I wasn't speaking to you...

It was a general comment and I agree that something is needed and Leonidas tried to get one of us to do it once before, I guess I should have stepped up then; I just didn't see myself as a sufficient Scribe type. Maybe each man that is a CM regular should be given a specific subject and write something up for reference. Leonidas was going to moderate it anyway so it should be balanced and acceptable for the most part.

That's about all I have left to say on this subject.

Tal Bull,

We suggested the committee approach---we had even narrowed it down rather closely---but were shot down when told only a single writer would do, that a three person committee (as we suggested) would just gum up the works.

And so the project was killed.

The door was left open to revisit the issue, but I think we all still wouild be more comfortable with consensus than with a single author.

I confess I don't understand the objection to the committee approach, as in the months that have gone by, we'd have had the FAQ section established already.

But as we both have experienced, you can't debate with a mod.

Live well,

Tim

greetings Trapped,

This was something I struggled with when reading the books and I personally would not try to teach someone. After reading the posts by the Free people here for years I have no doubt they would be able to explain it in a manner everyone could understand if they choose to do so. I myself was lucky enough to have a wonderful FW explain it to me so now when I read the books I keep in mind what she taught me and it has made me see everything in a whole new light.

I think, and not that my opinion may or may not matter, but I think that it would be a good idea to get as much education about Gor, out there. I know between the two threads that I have been reading and posting on, I have learned a great deal about myself and my home dynamic.

But, here again, this may or may not be my place.

I think that it would be unfair to put the task off on one person, so I think that if you had a group of people who were particularly learned on any one subject, then that would make like much easier for the rest of the people. And then eah person could post a thread on said subject and then questions pertaining to that line of thought, or subject could be posted.

Just an idea. Do with it as you will.

Good Evening Tim & Bull,

As a suggestion, even if the FAQ was written by two, three, ten, fifty people, couldn't that committee designate one person to be the final editor; that the work may have been a collaboration, but that he'd be personally responsible for it?

Regards,

Stephan

Hi again kisshou,

I can certainly understand your point, and while I am happy that it worked for you, my point is that I don't believe it would work for everyone.  You base your thoughts on two assumptions:

1. There is a Free-person (I think that is how I should designate them; apologies if I am mistaken) who is willing to take the time to do that.  Much of what I have read on here implies that Gor is "harsh", and there is not much hand-holding, so  find it slightly unbelievable that there would be someone to do that.

2.  Others coming to look at Gor are as intuitive and intelligent as you.  You can explain the philosophy of Descartes to someone over and over, and they still might not get it.  I am not sure that we should rely on people's ability to grasp information once it has been explained to them.

Just my random thoughts.  Have a great night!

Trapped

Greetings thang,

This is one of those things that you should have just relaxed and just not even written a reply.  I will let you know why.

There are so many online faults that you never , EVER, see in the real life aspect of Gor.  Let us take one thing....the silks.  You see so many females referring to themselves as red, yellow, white....who cares.  As slave you are just a wanton female that when touched the right way would just desire to beg to be dragged away and made to perspire inbetween sheets for 8 hours.  On serves....You get so many females going over board with writing eloquent serves and yet they would not be able to do any of it in real life....Give me a go.

I can tell you with all the heart and love of Gor I know, that online is way hell off the mark to being in real life in front of a male or female.  To kneel in front of the male naked, listening and just shutting up and then talking when told to, or asked.  Being able to know that you have NO say in what happens.  Now before all you do gooders go off your rocker on the ...no say in what happens.....you would also have to place into your mind that through COMMUNICATION you would not get to a stage that you would feel insecure in being around the male, naked.

There is a major difference between writing words of the nature that he touched your cheek.....to feeling the same thing in real life.  In real life in feeling him grab your long hair and make sure your eyes meet his or your mouth is pushed down to his feet, to make sure you know whom masters your emotions.

Be well.

Frank Ar.

Tal Frank,

No argument, but imagination should not be discounted. It can become very real. In the years since the books were first published, I would venture to guess that a helluva lot of the people who are Goreans today had their first contact with Gor online, and the rest was history. The Internet is still our primary means of communication.

I'm not saying that reality isn't different. But there is also a sense in which, if the people we meet online are genuine, reality isn't going to be so much different as more intense and enveloping. Interaction in an imaginary tavern isn't role playing if everybody is just being themselves. When I've met people that I had first come to know online, what I saw was what I got. Including serves, because not all places will tolerate girls typing air-headed romantic fiction. Being on the Internet is part of the Gorean lifestyle these days. It is how we maintain our extended communities. The recent Thassa Lighthouse gathering, for example.

There have been Gorean chatrooms where Goreans gathered, where slaves learned to behave properly, and where good men found others of like mind. That today this seems mostly to take place via forums is detail. While forums facilitate more extended discussions, chatrooms allow for more immediacy in the interaction of personalities.

IWYW,

Kirata

Tal Kirata,

I have no second thought about people whom go into an online tavern and actually know about Gor, because they live it offline.  The net and the computer had afforded many people to talk with like minded individuals from across the globe, to inter mingle with others and when females serve, they do know that they can serve like that in real life.

I was really trying to venture into the thought of the so called players....when the so called master comes off the computer because his wife is yelling about the dinner getting cold, the female slave doing a serve and typing that her toned sleek legs gracing across the floor when she is 400 pounds, or the mythical warrior that has to come off the computer because his mummy disconects the line........or even the slaves that say they have the desire to serve and only serve online even though there is a male within 30 miles of where they live, for they just want the comfort and barrier of what the computer can give them.

Be well.

Frank Ar.
