Whatever you desire to be a collar is a collar. It doesn't have to be obvious to others as has been stated so far, just a simple chain or one of the popular circlet necklaces. One that I saw the other day set me laughing. Kay Jewelers had a chain in silver (beautiful) that had lock and key as a pendant $400 but it could be worn to work, or anywhere without anyting more than a complement being directed towards it. poenkitten

My collar is a 20 inch length of chain with a padlock on it. Mistress keeps the key in a little jewelry box. People just think it's a fashion thing. Never got any strange looks about it.

I first saw this ring on a co-worker. I mentioned I liked it, thinking it was something more, but she mentioned her siblings gave it to her b/c she has no jewelry.... When I saw it, I thought it would make a GREAT everyday non-trad collar.... edited to fix a link.....

for my birthday this year TheEngineer got me a gold necklace which has three teardrop shaped pendants hanging from it. they're spaced along the front of the necklace and each one has a diamond set in it. it hasnt been off since he put it round my neck. i also still wear Daddy's ring which is a james avery piece, its made to look like a tooled leather belt. http://secure.jamesavery.com/jewelry/search/product/R-1403/Floral-Belt-&-Buckle-Ring/ kitten.

My girlfriend has a regular necklace that was modified so the clasp is held together by 2 plates and a Screw. it requires an alen wrench to take it off. unless you looked at the back of the necklace you would never notice that it was "locked" She has only taken it off with his permission to clean it since she recieved it. She also has her "official" collar which is leather and Lace and she wears that to every fetish friendly place. Cheers Skully

I wear a Tiffany padlock on a chain. It never comes off except to shower. I also have a sterling silver snake chain and a silver filigree heart shaped padlock on a chain for more "dressy" occasions. I have a lovely soft black leather collar with an "O" ring which is kept for fetish parties.

I now have 2 official collars used for play but everyday I wear the 16 in necklace with the pearl and small diamond pendent. It wasnt given as 'the collar". he was happy when I said it made me feel collared as it was the first .

A lot of people just wear simple necklaces, or ankle bracelets. If you google "Collars,BDSM" you'll get pages of ideas.

Not to hijack this thread, but what input or say (if any) should a submissive - not slave - have in the choice of a collar?

A visible material collar can be what you wish it, be it a neck lace or a formidable metal ring. The security of either depends upon both your wishes, personally myself I would wish a collar that could be undone easily by the wearer, thus it's security to me is an indication of the submissives desire. I might be a dominant,but I am not a gaoler. I do understand the need for a submissive to feel something about their neck, it seems the proper way, but the choice of that neck ornament is yours to make. I know a person from a munch who because of her job, wears an eternity collar anklet, which stays in situ.

My former sub hub wore an anklet that We had made ... in that case I actually wore a matching one as well. That was discreet for a professional occupation as it was totally hidden under trousers and sock. The only time that came off was when he raced his motorbike as NO jewellery is permitted then as a condition of the racing licence. I would keep it in My purse and it went right back on when he got out of his leathers for the day. As a sub, i love wearing collars, but in Australia they can get rather hot and sweaty and i tend to get skin reactions. i have worn a leather collar set with an amethyst to my work at Uni in winter without comment, but i can't wear it in summer. i have also worn a purple fabric diamante dog collar (hello misturbation!) ... also without comment but with the odd curious look ... not to Uni but out shopping etc. (We have the matching lead too but that's only for private places or play parties!). However, my actual collar is a silver bracelet We had made by the same friendly jeweller who made the anklets. Master and i had already bought matching silver rings with a woven look as initial commitment gifts to be worn on Our right hand little fingers ... so We designed the bracelet with the same silver woven look on the identity plate with v[A] in gold in the centre. The plate is mounted on a decorative but solid chain so it is comfortable and sturdy enough for full time wear. Because i wear my watch and 2 gold chain bracelets that my parents gave me on my left arm, the collar is worn on my right ... and besides, my expression is that "Master is always right" so it's in the right place! i've only taken it off when the first clasp broke and it needed replacing, otherwise i haven't had to. Re the sub's input ... as both Domme and sub I tend to think it's something best worked out together. It's important that the Dom has some ideas and the overall power of veto ... but to insist on something the sub hates or finds awkward, uncomfortable or embarrassing is hardly productive to the relationship. It may be a matter of trial and error too ... I bought a cheap anklet and got the sub hub to try wearing that for a while to make sure it wouldn't drive him crazy before We spent the $$ on the proper gold ones. (This after I had to buy him a pocket watch not a wedding ring as he is a real jewellery-phobe! That's why it pissed Me off when he wanted release because he wouldn't give the damned anklet back!) So it might be a good idea to try out some ideas and then settle on what works. Re the sub being able to get it off or not ... I know a lot of people love the idea that they can't. BUT ... sometimes jewellery HAS to come off in medical emergencies. I would rather a sub be able to take it off or have it removed for them without having to cut it off. I'd find that far more distressing. Also I'd hate to think of treatment being delayed while someone finds a way to get the jewellery off! Just another factor to consider anyway. I was told to fine mine because I'd be the one wearing it. It took me ages but finally I chose one from Chaotic Creations. A gold wire filled with a chain hook because I get claustrophobic occasionally and need to remove it fast fast. It looks like a beautiful choker, can be tight or slightly loose with the chain but they have lock down ones. I love love it. I've worn it every day and I sleep in it. There is a shot in my pics that has it on me.. maybe the main profile pic but not sure. He decided that my collar would be something I'd enjoy so I chose it. Then he approved and ordered it.

Ah, you all make me so jealous. If i had the opportunity to wear a collar, i would love either the eternity collar, the cartier love neclace, or (especially) one from bondagecollars.com But it's true. Whatever you want to be a collar, whether it's a vanilla necklace or something else, will be a collar as long as the sub never removes it without his/her Dom/mes aproval.

hehe its in both your profile pictures! yes i like chaotic creations stuffs, but im going with the eternity one since i like the streamlined look and i have to be very picky about metals...oddly stainless steel has never given me a problem but gold and sometimes silver breaks me out.
