This just in.... Soccer moms visit the local Neiman Marcus!

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14805.html

I guess the first dude is probably the only guy at the local alley with a gold-plated bowling ball? Who needs a $400 haircut anyway?

That crushing sound you hear? Thats the dreams of everyone from rural America who believed that an ordinary "Joe Six-pack" just like them actually would make it into high national office.

kittinSol -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/22/2008 7:45:51 AM)

I've been blowing my top over this incident all morning [:D] .

Dnomyar -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/22/2008 8:14:58 AM)

Can't let my co worker see the gold plated bowling ball remark. He is so fixated with bowling that he would probably try to get one.

kittinSol -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/22/2008 8:20:09 AM)

Blowing your bubble over a bowling ball. Bingo.

pahunkboy -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/22/2008 8:31:05 AM)

oh good.  now the economy is rescued.

SilverMark -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/22/2008 9:02:08 AM)

She couldn't campaign in mu clucks and a parka....Just doesn't sell in Florida

DarkSteven -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/22/2008 5:20:26 PM)

That hurts the Jane Six-Pack image she's been working to cultivate.

corysub -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/22/2008 5:46:11 PM)

Cum'on guys... cut the lady some slack.  There are so many important issue pro or con that we could thrash out about Sarah Palin...but the fact that the RNC wants her to make an attactive appearance in front of adoring crowds or on TV clips about her that seem to run a thousand times a day.  Think about it, the choice of Sarah Palin has given life to the otherwise boring "No more Bush.."  "McCain is Four more years"...and all the other slogans that have substituted for new ideas from the left.
Next we are going to find out if she wears a thong which will bring out the fetish in a lot of people on CM...actually, I happy to love thongs..but that's another thread.

Seriously, Politico pointed out that the DNC has not spent that kind of money on their candidates.  Well..duh!.... the "boys" wear their $3,000 suits and $100 ties, have a wardrobe of three black suits,  six shirts, four pairs of shoes, one black belt, and they are done!  What do the libs expect..they want Sarah in a "smock"...or apron..??
Heck, in past years I saw an "Academy Award" show and I think those woman were walking down the aisle with $20,000 -$30,000 designer dresses.  As far as I know, the clothes the RNC purchased for Sarah might have had a nice lable but I don't think they were designed for her....heck..she would look great in a smock too, come to think of it.

Why doesn't Politico figure out how much the taxpayer supported Amtrak has given Joe Biden in "complimentary" tickets between D.C. and Wilmington over the years.  Probably a heck of a lot more than $150,000, and it was not from donors supporting a party in a campaign fight...but from the taxpayer, hard working slobs like me who drive to work every day.  Maybe Joe could have driven too...but that would be beneath a U.S. Senator.  I wonder how much the Obama campaign payed for the paint job on the jet...maybe a little bit over the top?   These people, in both campaigns travel in private jets, have limo's and police escorts when they travel...have the best suites in the hotels...and "Lobster" for dinner.  I don't even think about it...it's part of the game...in most cases they are giving up a great deal to serve the country.

BlackPhx -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/22/2008 6:15:48 PM)

As a potential VP she needs to be well dressed and appear well put together...then again as a Governor she needed to do that as well especially since she was flying to NY even back then. When the country is in this type of financial upheaval I can't say that the stores she shopped at didn't appreciate the influx of income, but it's not the nicest thing to rub in the face of Joes wife Hockey Mom Hayley as she struggles to  keep shoes on the kids feet, the electricity on and Joe in Beer while he struggles to keep them in their house. When you are eating Mac and Cheese, it ain't easy to see someone wearing Jimmy Choos on your tax dollar and donations.

poenkitten ( who can't see them realizing very much back on a charity donation if M/P don't win)

Vendaval -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/23/2008 3:09:14 PM)

Why didn't the McCain campaign have Cindy McCain foot the bill instead of the common people who donated to the GOP?  No doubt Mrs. McCain has designers she could contact directly for donations and tailors/seamstresses that could have done any alterations.

Or have her shop at an outlet mall for some ready-to-wear and have it tailored if necessary?  That amount of money would keep a family of four very comfortable for at least a year.  The more frugal people in our country would make do with 1/2 or 1/4 of that amount, $150,000.  Yeah, I know a whole lot of folks who would be very happy with just part of that cash.  Plus there is the additional costs of a personal shopper, hair-stylist and make-up artist.

Is this issue trivial?  Not in an age where the image is frequently more important that the issues.  This kind of extravagence is a slap in the face to the working class and middle class people whom she claims to represent.  All the Joe and Jane six-packs and plumbers and waitresses are going to be pretty pissed off knowing where some of their campaign contributions went.

Remember when the republicans gave John Edwards so much trouble for getting a 400 dollar haircut.  Seems pretty funny to watch them now defend a $150,000 bill on this.

LaTigresse -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/23/2008 3:43:48 PM)

Mistress New, I was thinking the very same thing the other day. It's always so different when the Choo is on the other foot.

Because you clearly don't understand the concepts involved here.

Cindy McCain has far more wealth than Sarah Palin.  For her to "foot the bill" would have been a redistribution of wealth.  This is socialism and something that every true-blooded, patriotic American disapproves of.

In contrast, Sarah Palin is far more wealthy than most of those who gave donations.  Taking money from the "common people" to support the lifestyles of  the wealthy is perfectly acceptable.  This is capitalism and something that every true-blooded, patriotic American approves of.

Silly Democrat!

puella -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/23/2008 4:22:21 PM)

Did you see on hardball... if the GOP used the money for Sarah's shopping spree to help their iconic martyr, '(not)Joe the (not)plumber's house, you would still have 24,000 left over to help him put towards that business he was pipe dreaming about  (couldn't buy Sarah's new house though, that is worth over a million dollars....but you could use the extra money to pay back Wasilla for the unapproved redecorating job she did on her office and put on the town's tab ($21,000)).

Mass transit saves on gas emissions, is fiscally more responsible then driving in a car by yourself, allows him to continue working while enroute to his home and gives him an opportunity to meet more people. Mass transit is much greener than driving. Why do you take issue with it?

Yes, I found that one as well and it's a perfectly legal contribution. I was looking for a link to any article which has evidence that Amtrak provided 'complimentary' train tickets to Biden which Cory suggested 'probably' amounted to over $150,000.

Cory,
The National Railroad Passenger Corporation, also known as Amtrak, is a governmental agency created on May 1, 1971 as the United States' intercity passenger train system. Amtrak is a quasi-governmental agency; all of its preferred stock is owned by the federal government. The members of its board of directors are appointed by the president, and are subject to confirmation by the Senate. Some common stock is held by the private railroads that transferred their passenger service to Amtrak in 1971. Though Amtrak stock does not pay dividends and is not routinely traded, a small number of private investors have purchased Amtrak stock from its original owners.
In FY 2007, Amtrak earned approximately $2.15 billion in total revenue and incurred about $3.18 billion in expenses. Amtrak relies on an
annual federal appropriation, which in FY 2007 totaled $1.294 billion, including $521 million in operating funds, $495 million in capital and
$277 million for debt service. While Amtrak relies on federal appropriations to support its operating and capital needs, the federal government’s investment in Amtrak was less than 2 percent of the entire federal transportation budget for FY 2007.

The average round trip ticket from DC to Wilmington Business or First class will cost ROUNDTRIP 100-165$ per trip. To equal what Palin spent in 1 month on clothing (150,000.00) Joe Biden would have had to used a minimum of 1000 trips via Amtrak..that is a helluvalot cheaper than Airfare which we the Taxpayers pay for as well. That is a daily trip for the past 3 years. Somehow I don't think he has taken quite that many. If he was working during those trips, then he was working for us and I suspect he was using seats that would have been unoccupied most of the time.

poenkitten (who forgot to add, that the Contribution from Amtrak could have been made by employees of Amtrak. I have given under a corporate name in the past, even though it was the employees who made the contribution)

Okay, this is where things seem to look weird and delusional (paranoid and neurotic).  You're really gonna fault a guy for using public transportation?  I mean, he could be driving a huge Hummer and wasting money on fuel, not to mention the effects on the environment.  Do you not see how your ideology is now pouring over into utter nonsense and delusion?  god help america.

Vendaval -> RE: Fine lookin' new threads! (10/23/2008 8:27:26 PM)

Senator Biden taking the train with the other commuters is much more cost-effective and better for the environment than having a driver and limosine or attempting to drive through grid-lock every work day.
