Hi

Can anyone please tell me how I can go about checking that a US charity is bone fide? The charity in question is Snow Leopard Trust, in Seattle WA.

We love snow leopards and we'd like to support their conservation, but I'm also very aware of charity scams. The above seems genuine enough but it'd be nice to check them out to be sure.

thanks

E

LadyEllen, you can ask the charity to provide you with the number of their tax exempt organization private letter ruling, then obtain a copy of it from Westlaw.  You can also request they provide you with a copy of their tax information filings, which as a matter of law are public record.  If they aren't skimming more than 20% for 'general administrative costs' you'd at least know they pass the smell test.

Hell yes we are gonna watch tv...we're gonna stay glued to MSNBC or some such thing all Tuesday night till we see McCain give his concession speech.

Now can anyone tell me, will the lawyers still be able to sue once he does?

I use charitynavigator.org to check out charities. Here's the info on the Snow Leopard Trust:

Looks pretty legit to me.
