I will echo the use of the vinegar douches until you can see your doctor.  They are mild enough to not cause further harm.  I have found the betadine (medicated) douches to be more effective for me. One a day for 3 days.  If you are allergic to iodine then don't use the betadine douche.  I have seen betadine kill things that resisted everything else.

You might want to ask your doctor to check your blood glucose levels.  Recurrent infections of any kind can be a sign of diabetes.

Make sure your partner(s) get treated also & at the same time you do.  If a male the small tube of monistat-type cream that comes in some of the 3 day treatment kits is very effective applied topically to the penis.  Especially if he is uncircumized it is very common to have a certain amount of yeast under the foreskin no matter how fastidious he is with personal hygiene.

Okay, possibly squick details here.
Take a turkey baster, fill it with plain NO SUGAR yogurt and erm well I bet you can guess the rest of it! Then I use an all cotton tampon overnight keeping the yogurt in. Sorry, I did say squick.. hehehe.
It can also help if you've an internal yeast infection, something that is a lot more common than most realise. Instead of the overnight douche use the yogurt as an enema, not enough for cramping and immediate expelling though.
I found removing sugars and most processed foods make an incredible difference in how your body takes care of things on its own.

Oops, you may want to let the yogurt warm up to room temperature!

I've only ever had one once, so I am certainly no expert, but having researched it a little bit I will offer this additional bit of advice...

If prone to yeast infections use only unscented tampons, pantiliners, etc... and don't use sprays like FDS or other chemical products other than just gentle soap and water.

another yogert way is to take a tampon and remove the cotton, and fill the applicator with sugar free non flavored plain yogert, freeze just enough so that it is a bit more congealed and insert like you would a tampon. leave in overnight (i suggest sleeping with a pad)  the coldness of the half frozen yogert will help in some of the burning and itching.

Ok er um.... you insert the acidophilis rather than taking it like any other pill by mouth with water?

Does anyone know if this works better than oral use?

Jaded, how did you learn about inserting it vaginally?

A friend of mine swears by soft gel tabs of garlic inserted at night and says it cures the problem after a few days. Also, you can try acidophilis tablets, with one inserted in the morning and one in the evening. It boosts the benign and supresses destructive bacteria, allowing the body to maintain a healthy bacterial balance. That is what did it for me! I wish you the best of luck with this...

GARLIC GARLIC GARLIC.  And AZO Yeast - a pill you can find in the vitamin section at most Wally Worlds (use as directed).
Since my first pregnancy 10 years ago I have suffered many  YIs and nothing I found works as well as this.  Insert the garlic as described by other posters and try to avoid the outer skin that usually the most irritated.  This has worked better (less mess factor) and quicker than any other thing I have tried.  Also keeping something like Monistat cream around usually helps with the itching/burning on the outside.

YIs can be caused by A LOT of things - any change in the PH of your vagina can upset it - sex after a (relatively) long break, new/different medications, staying in a wet swimsuit - whatever.  So the biggest thing that has helped me is to do everything you can to maintain your health.  The AZO Yeast can be taken daily as a preventative measure as well as during an outbreak (AZO also makes one for UTIs), as can garlic pills.

Every body is different, so best of luck finding what helps you the most!

tea tree oil put on a tampon and inserted for a short period of time after sex helps eat anything that may cause infection....I swear by it. now

Stay away from glycerin-based lubricants.  They cause them every time for me.  (I got my third one before I made the correlation....threw that lube away and have not had one since.)
