Zechriel -> Strained chest muscles-how do I heal? (2/3/2009 6:00:10 PM)

Good evening all!
It has been a bad winter here and I pulled my chest muscles again after snowblowing. Then I had to shovel our roof, so I really haven't had time to heal. A few days after that, Master really starting playing hard on my small breasts(38A), twisting and pulling and now  it hurts to even touch. From my breasts to my armpits, the muscles ache so badly, tingling, aching, almost like I am letting down to nurse again.. I am trying ibuprofen 4x a day, heat pads, hot showers but so far...3 days..nothing really helps. How long does it take for strained chest muscles to heal and should I be doing anything else?
Master has given me two weeks to heal and if I do not then I am to go to the doctor like when I pulled them snowblowing/shoveling in December. Which really meant that there was not much she could do other than make sure there was no severe damage. And yes, I already got scolded for not saying they hurt after snowblowing otherwise he said he would not have played that way.
Love,
Zechriel

Strained muscles and bad sprains can actually take longer to heal than a broken bone. Bad strains can take 3 to 8 weeks or even longer to heal.

Seeing a doctor is a good idea. Typically a torn muscle will show bad bruising in the area of the tear. But damage to ligiments and tendons are not easily scene (usually requires an MRI). A doctor should be seen to rule serious problems.

Because you are hurting so badly I would see a Doc NOW...not in two weeks.  He can at least give your mind peace that is only a strained muscle and give you some meds to help ease the pain some.  I hope you get better soon, I have pulled a muscle in my back shoulder area before and it hurt for weeks...Take care..

As previous posters wrote, muscles can take a while to heal. Remember that when dealing with the breast/armpit area, you also have glands and ducts which are likely also inflamed. The heat may help ease the muscles but not these other structures.

Lay off caffeine while you are healing, and add drinking lots of fluids to your regimen... this will aid in the normal functioning of the glands and ducts. Very gentle massage but no more twisting and pulling for a while.

Next time you pull a muscle, remember to ice for 20 minutes every hour immediately following the injury. I find bags of frozen peas are excellent for this because they conform to the shape of whatever they are on. The heat may feel nice to you, but it adds to inflammation.

Heat has made this worse. You should be icing things, and always do so right away. In addition you could try arnica cream applied to the area but not if there are open wounds.

OMG, a snow clearing slave!  If you ever need a new Master look me up.

Seriously though, there is not much you can do to accelerate healing.  The tissue has received an insult and needs time to remodel.  A complete remodeling of your body's tissues takes about 110 days, although you should be feeling better far sooner than that.  However, think in terms of three weeks and not three days.

The other thing to avoid is repetitive injury.  While I am sure you have lovely nipples just begging to played with, tell Master that you have other parts that are equally lovely and fun to play with.  And if it snows again, you need to have somebody else do the clearing this time.

As for ice and heat, the ice will reduce swelling immediately after the original injury because it acts as a vasoconstrictor and keeps excess fluid from building in the tissue, but after that it does nothing.  Heat might make it feel better, but it does nothing to speed the healing.  If the heat feels good, do it.  If not, save the electricity.

Good evening,
Wow, thank you all so much. MRI-that was what my doctor had said last time if it took too long and yes I will try cold next time rather than heat.  And I had totally forgotten that I had my arm pits waxed in between blowing and playtime. So it was just one hurt upon another. Ouch! And yes, I will call someone to plow next storm as my drive starts on one street and ends on another, dang city street plows! lol  But thank you all soooo much. And everyone have a great weekend!
Love,
Zechriel  [sm=cute.gif]
