greetings to all,

I am in the middle of reading Prize of Gor. Several times, JN mentions "high slaves". I am wondering what their function is, in terms of Gorean philosophy.

Does the high slave represent a woman who (insofar as her beliefs) subscribes to the pre-feminist mode of thought, where women believed they were women, and advocated living as women (think of the women in Edwardian times who opposed the Suffragettes, and called them quacks) or does she represent a woman who is advanced in her belief that she is (in relation to men) a slave? (or is it both?).

I have tried to find the answer by searching through the Gorean archives here, and surfing the net. I've had absolutely no luck.

He uses that term a number of times in the series. Just means a slave who is highly trained and refined. Think of her as a rich man's toy; very beautiful, very cultured, and would be very expensive on the block. You might go from well bred free woman to beautiful but green on the auction block to being a "high slave" after some extensive grooming and training, maybe in one of the specialized training houses in Ar.

In a culture like you find in the books, being way above average physically and female would make you a valuable commodity, and destined for a slave collar if you weren't really careful. Here, those women tend to end up celebrities. Name any famous, gorgeous woman from our pop culture, especially those who seem to have a bit of a slut side to them. On Gor, they'd almost certainly end up "high slaves".
