Politesub53 -> Jailed US reporter update. (5/11/2009 10:21:07 AM)

This is very good news. The charges against the reporter jailed in Iran, were reduced to a lesser charge. So she has now been freed.

Should I say now that this is what I figured would happen or do you wish to refer to my entry in the other thread about this Woman ?

Some countries, unlike the US, actually do concern themselves with world opinion. Those would be the ones without the means to bullly or buy their potential enemies.

Hopefully, this means moderates are winning out against the hard-liners in the Iranian government, but I'm not holding my breath.

Just to annoy certain people, I'm going to tip my hat at Obama, the genius, who's obviously behind the liberation of this gorgeous journalist, and who can do no wrong [8D] .

If not rulem, it is certainly the image they are trying to put forth.

And to confuse the issue even more, I am going to agree with kittin and give our dear leader two thumbs up.

Damnation, boi, that was pure wicked perversity [:)] .

CruelNUnsual -> RE: Jailed US reporter update. (5/11/2009 11:36:26 AM)

And to further complicate the issue I will point out that she was spying for the Obama administration.

Yes, but it was Bush's fault.

Everything is. Especially Jabba the Rush's kidney failure.

And to further complicate the issue I will point out she has been in the country for five years.

So, if she was a spy, whose administration was she spying for?

Come on, say it, come on....................I have cookies and milk for you if you say it.

mefisto69 -> RE: Jailed US reporter update. (5/11/2009 4:52:59 PM)

Term - hate to say it but there were probably marathon back door deals including mega $$$$$ for the Iranians to soften their position.

Politesub53 -> RE: Jailed US reporter update. (5/11/2009 5:03:25 PM)

While its possible a deal was made. Its also possible this was stage managed with the Iranian elections in mind. The hardline regime showing it had a softer image as well.

There are a heckuva lot of moving parts here.  There are numerous factions all jockeying for position in Iran.  Their situation is fluid.

I don't think there's any question that Ahmadinejad wants to sit down with the US, and I assume that there are others in Iran who want to as well (as well as some who don't).  It would have been excruciatingly difficult for Obama to do so while Saberi was imprisoned.

It's actually possible that the Iranians deliberately jailed her on fake charges so they could release her publicly.

I was very happy to see this bit of news.  Still being the cynical fuck that I am, I fully expect the new Iranian position to be, "we freed your reporter, now shut up about our nuclear weapons."

Being the cynical fuck that I am, I wouldnt be at all surprised if that deal wasnt already made.

Good points all around.  Glad she is free and back with her family.

And think of further implications. If the US backs down pressuring Iran to get rid of the nukes, that would indicate to the rest of the world that possibly she was a spy, but had nothing to report.

Never ever think these people are stupid, and I mean all of them, the rulers. That however does seem like that's what they want us to think sometimes.
