For a number of books she has known that she has a succubus spirit that needs too be fed daily but she constantly gets herself and others in danger for no other reason than she can't organize herself despite having well, Ive lost count of the number of lovers.(Give the girl a PDA or something.)
The author has twisted the story around so much to get as many new sex partners in as possible while still trying to constantly emphasis how much this isn't really Anitas fault she has a disability.
Anita just comes across as an incompetent "sprained ankle during an emergency " type.

First, I love the Anita Blake books. I'm still not jaded by them, and as an author myself, I do understand that point where the story just sometimes gets away from you and you find yourself scrambling after the protagonist going "WHy the hell did you do THAT????" (I suspect that only another author could understand that this isn't a form of schizophrenia). Of course, the protagonist's foray into Flakeville is occasionally companioned by the middle-of-the-night screech of a protagonist who hates what you (the author) have "done to hir"... "I would -never- do that... just what do you think you're doing? Go fix it!"

That notwithstanding, my biggest frustration with Anita Blake right now is her blatant dishonesty with herself. She -knows- what she is, knows what it is doing to herself and her companions, and yet she -insists- on doing stupid stuff that she knows is going to get her in trouble and make life harder for everyone, just to salve her ego that she still -can-. In the last 2 books, it was wildly apparent that she was doing something really DUMB in taking those jobs/situations on, and yet she had to think with her -ego- and be all macho and do it anyway... and look where it got her! If someone I knew did that, I'd smack hir one upside the head, then sit on hir for a month or so until xhe grasped the concept of "I am not a total idiot!"

She needs to go back to just raising the dead and get more heavily involved in the vampy world and lay off the cop shit. She's too compromised to be any good at it any more. The Vegas crew are right -- she can't be trusted to have the backs of those she goes into crap with! Also, I don't care how many lovers she has. Being poly, it doesn't bother me that she's very active that way -- but for all the green pee on St. Paddy's Day, would someone PLEASE tell her to stop being a jackass and dragging people into her crisis in ways that -force- them into her bed! That is just flipping irresponsible and -STUPID- and it doesn't make her look like this bright, up and coming detective... what it makes her look like is "Duhuh... not the sharpest tool in the shed."

Yes what you said! So much more clearly put.
I've only just given hope after that last book released.
I was hoping that Edward would see her as a liability get in touch with his inner sociopath and cap her ass.
I don't mind her being poly, its the being poly but making her partners jump through hoops because she cant deal with her own perceived "slut guilt" issues.
I would love to see a novel written just on the vegas crew.
The author keeps torturing me with these great peripheral characters that never quite come into focus.

after watching the last True Blood episode, I'm not so sure that the Anita Blake would be any worse than a drunken/charmed orgy with everyone doing it doggie style with those souless black eyes and not even looking like they enjoyed it! personally i liked the fairy series better. It was alot of sex, but there was always a reason and Merry embraced both her sexuality (decended from all those fertility dieties) and her kink side!

I hate what they did with the Maenad, and with Tara... I mean... what -did- they do with Tara??? I despise what they've done with Jason and the Church, I'm peeved at all the places they've completely buried the storyline... and the HBO series has completely lost the backline sort of dark humor of the books.

Oh, and I -adore- Merry Gentry... and I love the perspective on the Unseleigh. Swallowing Darkness is due out on Sept 29... maybe someone will get it for me for my birthday. I -love- her relationship with Kitto, and her realization, over time, about her untenable relationship with Galen.
