Yes, today is International Woman’s Day. Some details: quote:
International Women's Day (8 March) is an occasion marked by women's groups around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. When women on all continents, often divided by national boundaries and by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, come together to celebrate their Day, they can look back to a tradition that represents at least nine decades of struggle for equality, justice, peace and development. International Women's Day is the story of ordinary women as makers of history; it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men. In ancient Greece, Lysistrata initiated a sexual strike against men in order to end war; during the French Revolution, Parisian women calling for "liberty, equality, fraternity" marched on Versailles to demand women's suffrage. above is a clip off of: http://www.un.org/ecosocdev/geninfo/women/womday97.htm I am posting this here because i wanted to look at what it is we are celebrating. "equality, justice, peace and development" I am going to join the women in celebrating this, but in a different way... equality - the battle within myself to strive for happiness, breaking out of society/parental influence saying that in order to be happy i needed to be "just as tuff" as a man. I, as a woman have the ability to make the choice to be what i am today just as a man has the ability to be what he is today. He, Master, me slave. "all equally happy" justice - i celebrate the struggle in my life that led me to understand what justice truly is. a justice that is such a big part of my life. I am kept by a just master. peace - i celebrate the struggle in my life that led me to finally being peaceful in my self awareness. there are no battles in the house where i serve, there is love and care...its a tranquil place to thrive. development - perhaps the most important, i celebrate the struggle that led me to recognize the areas in my life that needed development. the increasing improvement, and the attainable goal to be the best woman i can in the safely of my master's steel. So, i shall beg to leave work early today and go have a martini! - any other girls wana beg to come?? *grins
