Greetings, Masters,
Greetings, Mistresses,
Greetings, girls,

The colder months are now upon us (those of us in the Northern Hemisphere that is) and I have noticed that I have stopped going outside as much as I do in Summer and returned to hobbies such as spinning, weaving and knitting (among others). What sort of changes in your hobbies/activities do you have in the colder months?

Greetings estah,

Personally, I tend to spend more time on the boards in the colder months.
Dunno if that is such a good thing or a bad thing though...lol.

I use to love to knit and do those craft projects where you sow yarn and make some sort of picture, forget what it is called. I use to enjoy puzzles in the cold months as well, unfortunately, all those activities I had to give up, due to numbness in all my fingers...I tried at first to keep doing them, but...lol..it is pretty frustraiting when ya can not feel the objects, so I would end up chucking them across the room or pitching over the TV tray that had my puzzle on it. As you can tell, I am an extremely patient person...*grinz*

I have picked up different cold month hobbies now though, such as reading and baking.
While the baking has a tendency to go straight to my arse...lol...I use my kids as the guinee pig taste testers...a job they do not seem to give me any grief over...lol.

I was hoping someone was going to put forth a thread that was a bit more light hearted, I think at times it is needed and some times they actually come in what seems to be perfect timing. Have you ever noticed that?

serve and be most well,
Mistress Maahsatti

Greetings, Mistress.

Yes I have noticed that when you truely need something, it is there. I do not mean millions of dollars or such, but the simple things. I love to back and also know of the problem with it going to the bottom, I am rather slender but have a well rounded bottom. I now bake with stelt meal and such things, I only use fruits that I have dried myself and such things. Have you tried alternative flours to normal white flour, honey or natural sweetners and other alternatives? You may need to test a little before you find the right mix to suit your taste (but with children as taste testers that should not be too hard). I try to avoid processed things and make most things myself. If you wish I can search out a few of my recipes for alternatives I listed.

I wish you well.

Hi estah,

I would love if you would find some of your recipes and share them with me, they sound very interesting and promising, since I am also diabetic and with your recipes I may actually be able to enjoy my own baking without as much guilt....lol

Take care,
Mistress Maahsatti

Greetings,

Two hobbies that I very much enjoy (regardless of weather) is horse riding and dancing (Ballroom - both Latin and Standard, Oriental dance - aka belly dancing, Jazz Ballet to a small degree, middle age dance, exotic dancing - not the pole unfortunately, Some square and folk dancing). Living in the city prevents riding as much I am use to but I am lucky enough that there is a riding school near me that stays open through winter.

hello estah,

I love counted cross-stitch.  I know it's not for everyone, but there's a real sense of accomplishment when you finish a piece you've been working on for months.

I'm a lover of all things crafty, so there's always projects here to pick up.  I usually make all my holiday cards myself, so that keeps me busy too when it's chilly outside.  speaking of which, I need to get crackin' on those :)

cheers,
peach

Tal estah,

My hobbies are pretty much the same year round. I read all the time and with Barnes and Noble releasing the Nook the end of this month I'm definitely going to be reading a lot more.

I like to work with my reptiles too. I own multiples snakes and a gecko.

Drawing, writing and watching TV.

I do miss planting a garden and swimming at the hill bill beach but they will be back soon. For now, Football!

I wish you well,
Scott

Hi verity,

Winter hobbies... I like to draw and paint, so I tend to do art work, practice piano, I like to bake- especially around the holidays (we Brits have the Christmas cake tradition where we take a fruit cake that was baked at least a year prior ~don't ask my Master His opinion on British fruit cakes, lol~ and then we put marzipan and decorate with royal icing, which I really like to do and it can get quite elaborate and ornate because the icing goes hard and you can make lace and spires and all kinds of things with it), I do read a lot, sometimes write, dance classes/ tai chi and things depending on the schedule, recently I'm attempting sewing... once in a blue moon knitting... (I don't tend to be crafty, but more arty, so I have to be really in the mood to do a craft) last year I did get out on an unseasonably warm day in January and built an igloo, but I tend to avoid the outdoors in the winter, preferring a roaring fire and a cup of tea or hot cider... although I'd brave the cold to try dog sledding because it just looks wonderful ....sex... is sex a hobby?...I do that a lot too

Once it's warmer (Spring through Fall) I like gardening and hiking and things... taking care of the sheep (which is a hobby from Spring to Fall and a chore in the Winter, lol) photography, art, reading. I like walking along the beach or scrambling over rocks, perhaps sitting and drawing or reading, but I'm not into just laying on the beach like a basted turkey.

Not sure if I've forgotten anything.

Well wishes,
anna

Greetings anna,

I hope sex is not a hobby or it is a hobby I might never get into again....

I really have to do something about that part of the physical hobbies.

~FR~

I tend to do the same things generally in cold weather as warm with a couple exceptions: 1) Not as many outdoor picnics and cookouts. 2) Not as much swimming and boating.

Hi anna,

Sitting in front of a roaring fire is a personal favorite but instead of tea, I sip hot chocolate. They have finally come up with a lovely diabetic version, I believe the brand name is swiss miss. In the winter it kinda becomes a nightly tradition with my 6 yr old, to have a cup of co co right before bed, with a story....lol..he loves it.

Take care,
Mistress Maah

Greetings Mistress Maah,

That does sound a lovely winter ritual- the simplest things are often the best:) This girl also likes ovaltine (the old version that wasn't so sweet) and at Christmas mulled wine- although that is probably a no-no for you being diabetic. Thankfully, her 13 year old isn't too old to be read to yet- the books have just become more sophisticated:) Fall is one of this girl's favourite seasons- cold enough to enjoy fires and warm drinks and still sunny and warm enough to be outside enjoying the colours. But almost looking forward to being inside on a snowy day with steaming hot cocoa now:)

Well wishes,
anna

Greetings Mistress Maahsatti and anna,

A fire in a fireplace sounds delightful, it is something that I have never had the pleasure of enjoying. I do remember with great fondness the open fires while camping when I was younger. I wonder if it is similar.

Greetings Mistress Maah,

Fall vies with Spring for this girl's favor... Spring just because it is such a relief to brush away last year's dead leaves and find little crocuses and things starting to push up and for the days to start to warm up again... Spring is so pretty with all the bulbs and trees blossoming... But Fall... the leaves turning, the smell of wood smoke, apple picking... This girl thinks she leans toward Fall too, but oh it's a hard choice!

Waves back :)

anna

Hello verity,

I was thinking about it, and I don't think they are similar at all. I mean, watching the flames dance is similar, but when it's in a fireplace, it's a cozy feeling... I think of my grandmother's house, the grandfather clock ticking, tea.... it's a sort of enclosed feeling... all wrapped up and warm. An outdoor fire, feels totally different... it's open, and the stars are above your head, and there's the "home on the range" cowboy feeling to it, a sense of wilderness and being one with nature. Both enjoyable and both involving fires, yet quite a different experience I think. But that might just be me:)

well wishes,
anna

Greetings anna....

Ahhh home on the range...*gets all home sick* I think I am going to have start planning a trip back home. Oh the fun of being on horse back (not in a school but in the open areas), working in a garden and doing a real honest days work. Sitting in the classroom and such is fun, but I miss getting dirty. In the sense of working not sex.

Hiya estah,

I absolutely agree with anna about the differences between an open camp fire and a cozy home fire in the fireplace or wood stove.
Both give you the most wonderful feeling in their own unique ways.

take care,
Mistress Maah

I actually get to go outside and do things finally.  During the summer months, I am pretty much confined to indoors.  Allergic to UV-B rays, they make me break out in a nasty rash, terrible light sensitivity, and I overheat and dehydrate at the drop of a hat.  I'm one of those freaks that will actually wear shorts and a t-shirt until it falls below about 40 F.

Winter is, to me, what summer is to most people.  I get depressed and sick in the summer, and in the winter, I go out, enjoy life, have fun...  It kind of sucks being back asswards like that.

Greetings,

I have no favourite seasons, I find that each season has something special about it. If you look hard enough you will find good in something everyday. It is hard sometimes, but it is there.
