I admit I hope it's not unbearably obnoxious to share a pertinent tidbit from one of my medical updates.

Ninety minutes and a bottle of bug juice later, I was finally in the CT room, lying in splendor on the table/bed. Had the Mirror of Erised* dangled above me at that moment, I wouldn’t have seen Rob Lowe or a bungalow in Rehoboth or a ’62 Caddy. No, I’d have seen my own aging arms—equipped at last with cooperative veins.

* In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Dumbledore explains that the Mirror of Erised “shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts.”

This is a mirror that shows nude pictures of Rachael Weisz?
I admit it: I want one of those...

I admit I am such a shopping whore and need to be controlled for a while but then I get bubblewrap and Mom loves that.

I admit that Mom is thinking about taking the handbag that came in today. Waterproof with several pockets and colorful zippers with flowers. She is also eyeing the eyeshadows since I am going through a makeup/girlie phrase (she get me some finishing powder and removal wipes today since I brought all the groceries). She already loves my foundation...

I admit I can't no longer handle BBQ...the midnight snack of ribs is giving me heartburn (but they were so good!!!).

If anybody doesn't love bubblewrap, they might as well just give up now, frankly.

I have 2 silver laced wyandottes. They are lovely. New chicks are Salmon Faverolles, Easter Eggers, and Whiting True Blue. Am hoping to raise Faverolles. Love their fluffy look. A Cochin/Faverolles cross might be lovely.

I admit to being jealous as well. I finally live with in the country with room for chickens, but I have a German Shorthaired Pointer who is bird obsessed. Being a bird dog and all. Still, I very much want chickens. But, I love my dog. He wins out.

I admit that the pair of size 26W pants I brought thinking they might be a tiny bit snug are actually loose on me! Apparently I am getting muscle structure...

I admit that Mom brought too much candy again for the kiddos...luckily I got my favorite sugar free stuff onhand.

I admit that I am upgrading my internet provider to the fastest satellite speed I can afford (and gig allowance per month). Maybe I will get Netflix back so I can do something else besides gaming...

I admit I'm going a big shoe crazy and that is coming from someone who normally owns 2 or 3 pairs of shoes at the most. Fell in love with the Slogger shoes in chicken patterns. Ended up buying 2 flower patters. Was just at the hardware store (yes, hardware, not shoe store) and they were welling Sloggers. Got a red leaf pattern and a super bright blue floral pattern. Even bought a pair for Gary. That now makes us a 7 Slogger household and there are still 2 patterns I just "have" to have. Oh goodness. Not good.

Yes, I am crazy about feathered creatures. I have a dozen chickens, 3 ducks, 5 geese, and 2 parakeets.

Revise that number. Just got 14 new chicks and 5 turkeys.

I admit that there's a red tailed hawk living here. They're huge when they take off at the same height as the windshield.
And apparently the coyote are back. Last year was a drought year so not enough prey for them.

They den up to give birth up in the old cement mines, ten miles away. But they're back here now, yipping late at night.

I admit that I love red tailed hawks. They nest every year up on our hill.

Do they prey on the chickens?

I thought they would but my neighbor assured me she'd never lost a chicken to a red tailed hawk. This is my 4th year of having chickens and so far she is right. I have lost chickens to the neighbor's dog, owls, fox, and bald eagles but never a hawk.

I admit I had my GTT done yesterday and survived it for the most part...did get a queasy stomach and a bit shaky before the first hour stick but I stuck it out. Got some progress on a new baby afghan (solid shell stitch). Believe me, I was ready for that sub after the test!!! Ended up getting poked 4 times...pre-drink, 30 minutes after, 1 hr after and 2 hrs after...my arms are pincushions.

I admit that I have been getting shipments of yarn from a fellow Spacer since she is cleaning house and changing hobbies...what I don't use, the kid's school will get at the beginning of the new school year for occupational therapy and craft classes. One of my niece's is already claiming some yarn for herself.

I admit that Mom is doing better...the cataract surgeries gave her near perfect vision but she needed prescription reading glasses because she has gone from nearsighted to farsighted (removing the restriction on her DL) and we got matching frames (mine is mauve while hers are blue). She is almost recovered from her AF attack but still gets a bit weak and tries to do damn near anything. Can't keep the woman down...

Chickenhawks are a lot smaller than red tailed hawks:

I admit that I have decided to permanently give up smoking....
I admit that strangely enough, I do not have any over riding impulses to erase humanity from existence and it has been 24 hours since I had a cigarette.
I admit that since I have begun this new path, I have accomplished a few chores I have been putting off....
I admit that in accomplishing on of these chores (I was told it would take 2 people to perform safely, but I did it by myself) I managed to wrench my knee.
I admit that said knee (traitorous aging body part) is now swollen and required a bit of treatment at the doctor.
I admit the prescription he decided I needed may be the reason I have no desire to erase all or part of humanity from existence, considering it is an opiate.

Well, if it gets you through the first couple weeks, it's supposed to be easier from then on.

Having looked up red tailed hawks, apparently they are referred to as chickenhawks but very rarely go after chickens. I suppose that like every other predator, they eat rabbit.

Just my infantile sense of humour, I'm afraid: as soon as somebody mentioned hawks and chickens, that little guy was the first thing that sprang to mind.

I don't think he's based on a red tailed hawk though, the rest of the coloring is wrong.

But is there anyone anywhere who doesn't love Foghorn Leghorn being cut down to size by a fledgling hawk? If so, I don't want to meet them.

I never knew this, but he's named Henery Hawk.

Red Tailed hawks will, if no other prey is around, go after chickens.

The primary reason that they do not go after chickens is that chickens are usually kept to a fenced area, thus making it difficult for the hawk when it goes for the kill.

Red Tailed hawks are not stupid. Mother nature equipped them for fast turns on the wing and thus they know (or learn after one attempt) that any area that limits their ability to maneuver is not where they want to hunt.

The ones around my place are also fast learners. There is a large tree the four of them like to perch on and wait for us to let the dogs into the back yard.

Dogs go out into the yard, see a rabbit (usually more than one) that is in the yard, chase the rabbit, rabbit goes through the fence and mr or mrs Red Tailed hawk swoops in and catches said rabbit.

I am hoping in the next few days or so to actually get video of this symbiotic hunting practice to post online.

The hawks will not go after the rabbits in the yard due to the high fence, so they are content to wait.

Dare I ask what you did that you shouldn't have, to damage the knee?
The Man apparently scratched his cornea and has bitched for a week straight about having to sit with it closed while it healed.
