i am English and note that as such i am in a minority group as most regular posters here on the Gorean forum are from the United States.  If i do a search under Male Doms in the U.K that include reference to Gor or Goreans here on Collarme, my results show me there are a few but very little Goreans on here from the U.K in comparison to the U.S.   Now, in theory this would make sense as its pretty obvious the population of the U.S is far far far greater than that of the U.K... so of course there will be far more U.S Goreans than U.K ones.

But what i am wondering... and i dont know if anyone has or can ever have any sort of answer to this but, number of Goreans in the U.S compared to overall population of the U.S and number of Goreans in the U.K compared to overall population of the U.K = impossible to say i know... however, does anyone have any intelligent answer as to is the Gorean lifestyle generally much more popular in the U.S in the U.K?.  i suspect the answer in yes and as John Norman was born in the U.S this too would tie in to this assumption.

the reason i ask is that i, even with the world wide web at my finger tips... find it very hard to establish how big the Gorean lifestyle is here in the U.K.... and not knowing anyone personally does not help me with finding answers.  Has any Goreans here from the U.S lived / spent alot of time / or had much contact with Goreans in the U.K?.... and therefore better able to give some sort of idea as to what Gor in the U.K is actually like?

Thank you and best wishes

Greetings serisa,

*waves across the pond* I am British, but living in the States now, but I'm also not Gorean - just Gorean-friendly, . So, I can't unfortunately answer your question, though it is an interesting one to be sure. I did find the following link on one of Master Malkinius' sites: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/GoreangatheringUK/
Perhaps this might be a good starting point?

Well wishes,
anna

How many Goreans there are has been a discussion point over the years. A BIG one. It depends on who you count as Gorean. If I count the number of people I have met offline that I consider Gorean, and I have met more people in Gorean settings offline than almost everyone, I would count a dozen or two in the US. Note, this is after meeting around 300 people in offline Gorean settings. If I add in online people I know that I consider Gorean double to triple that. Since I know I don't know every possible person who I might consider Gorean, especially world wide, be generous and multiple this by 10. The final number comes out to maybe 500. If I add in the people I have met who might or might not be or could become Gorean then I would push that up to somewhere between 50-75. Using the same multipliers that would up the numbers to another 1500 or so. Add in those that I would consider Gorean and you have about 2000 people world wide. Yes, I have a much more restrictive view on those I consider Gorean than many do. So, if you want to be more generous, double my estimates. One last note here...I am including slaves of Goreans in these numbers. No, they are not Gorean but they would be part of the Gorean community as I would define it for "real" Goreans as opposed to players and BDSM crossovers who just want to add a little Gor to their play.

Most of these people are in the US. Most of the rest are in Canada, England and Australia. They are scattered and most will not come out from behind their computers to meet other people. There are very very few concentrations of people who consider themselves Gorean offline and most of those groups are less than a dozen people. This is what I have found after a decade of looking for Goreans, meeting them, hosting offline Gorean gatherings and traveling tens of thousands of miles to meet with other Goreans.

Be well....

Malkinius

Then grab serisa and both of you come to the U.S. . I'd enjoy a couple more in my house. I'm sure there're few other Gorean men who'd welcome you too. Hell, I'd even share with Tim, he's close enough.

Hey Rick,

Sounds so much easier than Voyages of Acquisitions...just invite them over here, to the International Gorean Slave Relocation Center!

Speaking of invites, lets get together for dinner sometime in December before the big snows hit.

Living well internationally,

Tim

Greetings Master Malkinius,

This girl thought the same thing when she came across the following link while doing a search on Goreans and the UK: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4996410.stm and she noticed that at the bottom of the article, the claim is made that there are 25,000 Goreans estimated to be in the world. And she wondered how on earth they came up with that figure (did they take a poll? Find all the online forums and add up the membership numbers?) And who are they counting- particularly given the tone of the article and the general ignorance the writer probably has- she cannot imagine such a number has much validity. It seems a very difficult task.

Well wishes,
anna

Actually, Tarl is only British in Tarnsman...by the second book, he was American, and, later in the series, well, as we all know, he was Gorean.  My guess is that by the second book, Dr Lange had decided that, being American, he could probably write better idiomatically in an American setting. As if his writing could have been any worse...

Food for thought....well, in this case, snacks for thought.

And to make matters worse, books later in the series occasionally mention "Tarl of Bristol."

Tim, as I have often said, one of the clearest signs of intelligence in Dr Lange, is that he clearly does NOT read his books.
The failures in continuity, and the contradictions with earlier data given, are rather astounding. As an example, a couple of years back, when I was still frequenting chat rooms, I had a girl research slave wine (since she apparently thought it was just a wine for slaves, akin to Boone's Farm)...she found quotes which gave the effects a term of anything from a month, to a year, to life, depending upon in which book it was being drunk in.

This does not make the lessons of the books any less worthwhile, it merely makes them more frustrating.

Greetings Master Malkinius,

*chuckles* that is what she thought it sounded like. One would hope the BBC would be a bit more careful.

Well wishes,

Greetings Master Asmodeus,

This girl is not looking as she is already owned and no longer lives in the UK- she was only sending serisa a link. Sorry if she was confusing in her post. At least serisa now knows of at least one Gorean in the UK

Well wishes,

anna
