I was around 11 or 12 myself when I picked up my first one in a sale from Glasgows John Lewis store. Finding out there where more in the series My Gran started buying them for me... I think she would have been rather surprized at where those books would ultimatly lead to

She would have been surprized for certain, but being the only other member of the family with enough braincells to maintain an open mind she wouldn't have been too shocked by it.

Even if she had known, I very much doubt she would have stopped buying them for me. She was a very sound, strong lady. I very much think that My grandfather got topped from the bottom a LOT

Tal and greetings
I remember that the Gor books the first editions came out about the same time Conan stories were being republished. So between classes and at lunch break a few would sit down and read, I understand now reading in school is looked down on. Also reading about women being enslaved and all...is not PC. So if I was doing it now I get expled. It is interesting to note that those who did answer did so in the youngest age group.

I wish you well

Nosathro

Intresting indeed but I have a feeling that you would also find a coralation between many of us and reading shakespear as well as enjoyment of opera and clasical music the things that help expand the mind.

oh and actually it is the second lowest catagory lol... I have known 3 people that actually started reading them at the youngest was 7... though I did know one that was read them starting at 5 as bedtime stories

That would have been 6. And oh but my grandma had no idea what she was buying (the cover art looked all fantasy goodness). I think in hindsight she would have waited to teach me to read lol. Many of the later books were carried in my junior highschool library, which gives an entirely different interpretation to the word "education" from what California was accustomed too. Sure wonder if there still there *grins*

Reading back on them later in life, was not the thrill fest I had anticipated. The underlying messages and ideas were still there, and it was nice to re-read those old/dear friends. But story and style failed to thrill.

I didnt want to throw them away, but I did reaffirm it was time to put away the paper and get on with living the life.

Though they still stand on my shelf - just like my car manual stays in the glove compartment box. Never know when I'll have to brush up on how to lower the window

About 23 years old, I think?  I remember walking into the used bookstore in the sci-fi and fantasy section.  A book fell off the shelf and I picked it up.  I bought it and read it.  Later, I bought more of the series.  Secretly, I had fantasies of wearing a collar, submitting and being under the control of a dominate male.  Last October, Master found his slave.  Being a slave is no longer a fantasy.  It is reality 24/7.

New to the group/website, but old to Gor.   I first read them at about 15-16.  It is very interesting to see how the content has matured along with me.
