Hello Hierodule,

I agree with the above, but I ask you this.
Is that not another form of defending? Another way of fighting for herself and her own?
I would think that self sacrifice would be among the hardest positions to have to be in

Just a thought
well wishes,

Greetings Dangrus.....

In the books, most everyone was Gorean by virtue of the fact that they were born on that planet. However, perhaps I wasn't clear. Norman referred to several as " a Gorean man or a Gorean woman."

But I don't recall him ever describing someone as *a* Gorean Master/Mistress. They were simply free Goreans.

Yep, it's semantics. But I find a lot of the important parts of the Gorean tenets are in the subtleties.

Wish you well,

~Dangrus

Kirata is correct about the usage if you are just asking if the two words were ever used in combination. They certainly were. Gorean (adj.) modifying Master (noun) in exactly the same context, from the occurrences I looked at as the term Earth Master. You are right that it was used to denote someone from the planet Gor, not a title in its own right. Perhaps an analogy could be made to a Shintoist Master versus a Presbyterian Master as different styles of slave ownership. No, I have no clue what the differences would be. <grins> You make them up.

What it never is, and I agree with you here, is a title, rank or achievement. That is what makes it such a wonderful filter to weed out the clueless and the gamers who pretend to be Gorean when they call themselves a "Gorean Master".

Be well....

Malkinius

Hello there, Malkinius,

I don't doubt that Norman used the words together, however I do wonder if he ever used them to describe a specific character. I seem to recall him using them in a generic way "The Gorean Master will..." when waxing philosophic.

What I don't remember is him (or Tarl Cabot) referring to a specific person as "a Gorean Master." I believe it was more often than not "a Gorean man."

I do agree that it is indeed a handy filter... since my initial reaction when someone says "I am a Gorean Master!" is to think...

"Well aren't you special..."

Nice to read you again, Malkinius.

Wish you most well,

~Dangrus

Of course, this was only after he realised he was paid by the word...before that, he would have simply said Gorean, or man....

back when I went into the chatrooms, I realised that there is a simple test to spot a player....if a guy felt a need to wear a title, he was a player....2 titles....mega player....which takes us to the guy I saw once in an MSN room....Master Lord God....need we say more?

Hey John,

Remember back in yahoo, a trend developed among  certain role playing....*coughs* Gorean'?, the one where they actually wore tags like the slaves did?....lol..That was the most weirdest thing  I think I have ever seen.

well wishes,
Maahsatti

Greetings Dangrus....

There were a few times where a slave brought to Gor from Earth said "My Gorean Master". Yes, he did say things like, "A Gorean Master will seldom..." or "A Gorean Master will usually..." or "...is the nature of a Gorean Master." In almost all other cases, it related to either a woman from Earth now a slave on Gor or a comment to Earth people (narrater's aside) about the difference between Gorean owners of slaves and people on Earth. I won't say all as I didn't track down every single occurrence.

I have seen that 'title' used too many times to count. I have also seen the multiple titles in or as a nick. Then you got things like 'MasterLordSirDom'. Very very amusing.

Be well....

Malkinius

I once tried to make the slaves address me as "HerRoyalHighnessMostBeauteousGoddessOfTheUniverse"

but none of them could spell it...

So I'm about half way through "Raiders of Gor" (couldn't resist reading them out of order) and I have to say, the part where Tarl is enslaved and tied to the pole as a "prize for the girls" got me all wet. And I'm not a Domme in any way, shape, or form! I can see where a guy with major submissive tendencies would hunger for Gorean slavery if only to be given "the kiss of the Mistress to a male slave", a bite diagonally across the mouth and lips that draws blood and leaves a scar. Of course the tables turned on all the girls involved pretty quickly, but "F"me if that wasn't a hot couple of chapters PHEW!
