Greetings;

As is my custom, this time of year, as Se'Var comes to a close, I have been pondering the year past and considering things...
As is also my custom I spend time in the presence of my Home Stone as I think about plans of the coming months.

I find it interesting that although my Home Stone is so central to my home and life, I have never before taken a lot of time to think about the origin of the custom of the Home Stone. The custom of the Home Stone before John Norman set it to paper in his works. In the past I had been tempted to think that the custom was simply a fabrication of Mr. Norman's brilliant imagination, yet on two instances I have had hints that there may be terrestrial analogies.

Once, very long ago, during a discussion with a traditional man of Ukrainian descent, I heard mention of a special 'rock' from a certain campfire that was carried with among the Cossack clans. Later, not too many years ago, a Qi Gong master I was speaking with mentioned sacred stones central to certain small villages in China.

Beyond this I have not seen too much in the way of Earthly analogies regarding, specifically, stones as central to a human community.

I was wondering if there are any thoughts on this, or if any here have gleaned more about this kind of thing?

Regards & good Tidings

There is the Lia Fáil, and if I recall correctly various other such stones in Celtic mythology.

In Islam there is the meteorite that has been attached to the Qaaba.

Hearthstone? Foundation stone? Flags? etc...

The Home Stone was a stone with a letter on it, made by a PK, serving as a symbol that united the people of a city-state.

Everything else pretty much grew from that, as far as the in-setting side of things go, IIRC.

It's my place. Our place. Whatever the scale, it serves as the totem.

And it serves as a covenant.

Health,
al-Aswad.
