Tal everyone, Norman used the phrase "order of nature" 81 times in the series. Here is the breakdown: Captive - twice Slave Girl - 4 times Fighting Slave - 4 times Rogue - 9 times Guardsman - 10 times Savages - 5 times Blood Brothers - 3 times Kajira - 4 times Players - 3 times Mercenaries - 3 times Dancer - 8 times Renegades - 2 times Vagabonds - 3 times Magicians - 3 times Witness - 9 times Prize - 8 times Kur - once He used the phrase "the natural order of nature" once, in Explorers. And, as has been correctly pointed out in this thread, he used the phrase "natural order" once in the series, in Blood Brothers. Obviously, I was mistaken when I said that he never used the phrase "natural order". He used it once, compared to using "order of nature" 81 times, and combining the phrases once. When he uses the phrase "order of nature" he invariably means the idea that humans are a male dominant species of animal; that it is therefore biologically natural for human males to dominate and human females to submit; and that people are more likely to be happy, healthy and fulfilled when we "take our place in the order of nature." I believe that idea is true. My reading of the "natural order" passage in Blood Brothers is that he is referring to the same idea. I strongly favor using the phrase "order of nature" because it is the one Norman used repeatedly to identify a single discrete idea. I oppose using the phrase "natural order" because Norman only used it twice, and it is routinely used here online to mean an amorphous variety of things Norman never intended. I wish you all well.
