ORIGINAL: breatheasone Thank You IshyB, i had been told that "It wasn't fitting with Gor philosophy, to practice beatings, or whipping/spanking for anything but "real" punishment." Thats why i thought i wouldn't be able to explore any masochistic tenancies i have. Thank you for taking time to correct the wrong information i had been given. Respectfully, candy Hi again candy, while I can't speak for anybody but me, and I know there are defiantly people out there who feel that Goreans and S&M incompatible, the general opinion of most people on this board seems to be that Goreans can have whatever hobby or interest that they would like to have. S&M play is an activity, not a defining philosophical character trade (although the reasons for such play can be incorporated into somebodies personal philosophy). Goreans can engage in pretty much any activity they find pleasurable, be that playing chess, watching TV, going to the opera, or practicing S&M. Activities are not what defines Goreans as Goreans, nor do they un-define Goreans as Goreans. Master Ron pulled up a good quote, and there are several more like it in the books. The quote bondmaid is referring to is this one: quote:
Outlaw of Gor ~ p. 53 Perhaps it should only be added that the Gorean Master, though often strict, is seldom cruel. The girl knows, if she pleases him, her lot will be an easy one. She will almost never encounter sadism or wanton cruelty, for the psychological environment that tends to breed these diseases is largely absent from Gor. This does not mean that she will not expect to be beaten if she disobeys, or fails to please her Master. A lot of people interpreter this quote to mean that Goreans cannot beat slave in an S&M context, and derive pleasure from that, because that would be sadism. But at the same time, a lot of people -like me for instance- feel that the sadism and wanton cruelty in this quote refers to the kind of sadism that can make a kid pull the legs off a bug. Or the cruelty a pet owner can have when he starves his animals, or doesn't take care of their medical needs. Or the sadism of a serial killer, who enjoys slowly torturing his victims to death. In all those cases, I would consider the sadism involved to be unhealthy. But when you consider your partner giving you a spanking because you both enjoy it, he isn't really being sadistic in the same sense as in the above examples. Sure, he is hurting you, and is enjoying the reaction you have to being hurt like that, but at the same time, he knows that you still derive satisfaction/pleasure from the act. He isn't out to harm you and that is what I think Master Norman means with sadism in the context of this quote. I wish you well, ishy Thank you IshyB, this has always been my view of it too. Respectfully, candy
