In response to the "Was John Norman Blacklisted" thread...Many go on and on about how many of the books were sold, and how huge a hit it was...without any real backing facts.  Therefor I ask the following:

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR BOOKS?

be honest, please.

John, AKA Dinnardin

Moonhead -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/7/2010 6:07:32 AM)

Aren't you going to get people who picked up the books from more than one source? I know I did, so I'm not sure the "pick one only" poll is going to work for this.

Louve00 -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/7/2010 6:16:41 AM)

Yea, I've liked to have 2 options too.  I bought some of mine from a used book store, but some that I couldn't find were sent to me by my first online (roleplay) Master and his FC.  (I feel compelled to say that my online Master and his FC were together in RL.  I was just an online slave roleplaying the part.  I have never been a slave in rl, or had the desire to be one in rl.)

Dinnardin -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/7/2010 6:17:01 AM)

I have added the "multiple answer" optio, but would still like to know how each person got most of your books....if you bought one of the 26 new, and stole the other 25...don't claim to buy them new in stores, ya know?

I couldn't readjust my vote (I'm having a bad bad technical morning lol), but if you're query is to find out who purchased new books, none of my books were obtained brand new.  And, I don't have Witness...or anything after the 26th book.

Musicmystery -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/7/2010 8:27:23 AM)

Used, Amazon, except for a couple new, also Amazon.

Real books. I hate eBooks.

kisshou -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/7/2010 8:41:39 AM)

I was in a used bookstore browsing the sci fi section. This bookstore was great and had everything alphabetical , they had almost the whole series for a quarter a piece.

estah -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/7/2010 9:19:49 AM)

Greetings,

kisshou you hit the jackpot there.

I have all books except 19 as books (19 is illegal in Germany, at least it is not sold in any bookstores and they will not order it, and it was never released in German), I brought books 19, 26, and 27 as ebooks in txt format, all other ones I have typed up myself and I am currently typing up Kur of Gor and Norman Invasions (for private use only).

When I first found out about the books, a couple years ago, I read the first 3 books illegally online.
Shortly after that, I bought the complete set second hand on ebay.
And then finally, last year I bought Master the complete newly printed set + ever other book Master Norman has written second hand as a Christmas present.

Nephilim -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/7/2010 1:09:39 PM)

Read the first 13 downloaded isohunt/utorrent.  Then bought the first 7 (first edition paperback), on ebay for $7.  Loaned those to a girl (doubt I'll get those back), and now am reordering them from Amazon for the new girl.

MasterHighOne -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/7/2010 3:33:34 PM)

My father suggested them to me as a good sci-fi read. But for some reason they struck deeper than that. Borrowed the first two from him, then got them off the internet. Even bought an eReader for the digital editions and that just got busted 2 weeks ago during training. Stupid tents....... lol.

Trevelyan -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/7/2010 7:46:10 PM)

The books were out of print when I became interested in Gor.

I bought 1-10, 12-14, 16 and 18 in used book stores.

I bought a used copy of 11 online.

By the time I got to 15, the E-Reads editions were available from Fictionwise, and I bought a complete set of all the books from them.

eponavet -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/7/2010 8:18:04 PM)

ABE books

Malkinius -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/7/2010 11:00:13 PM)

{Fast Reply}

Tal and greetings all....

I bought about the first half of the series new. They weren't all first editions but they were currently on sale in the books stores. (I am talking about the original printings, either Ballantine or DAW.) The rest of the original 25 and duplicates I have purchased used. The books since 25 I have purchased new. Sometime I might buy the electronic versions but so far I haven't had the spare money to do that for the entire series.

Be well all....

Malkinius

Greetings,

Is it a copyright infringement when I copy the books (type them up from the books myself) to text form but do not distribute them? It is for my use only.

I bought them new; don't remember the year, but I had been buying the Conan series, and was unfamiliar with Norman and Gor. Once I noticed his books had covers done by Boris Vallejo, I picked up a few, and enjoyed them.

It depends on whether or not you paid for your source material.

AnnaOfAramis -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/8/2010 5:03:34 AM)

Master bought the set online- ebook version. While his slave prefers hardcopy, she must admit it is very convenient to be able to read the books on her iPhone whenever she is stuck waiting somewhere. She does prefer the used ones from Ebay though- the ones with the original cover art. Can't stand the new ones with the covers all the same.

fluffypet61 -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/8/2010 6:44:24 AM)

this girl started with a couple of the books given to her.  Then she bought one or two at a time over a period of several years from Amazon Used sellers.  The ones on her bookshelf are all Daw paperbacks except for the last two - Witness & Prize.

kushiels -> RE: How did you get your books?respo (3/8/2010 12:37:25 PM)

I downloaded them (illegally), but have only read the first one so far. If and when I can get my hands on them at a used bookstore, I will definitely do so, since I love to have books in hand, especially books that have significant meaning for me.

Edited to specify that I didn't pay for my downloads.
