Not only were my animated gifs taken away, but I was censored for discussing it without even being sent a note as to why I wasn't allowed to say anything about it. NOT COOL. Yes, I've been told that they were taking away the animated gifs because they were slowing down the forums and I was asked not to post anymore. But when I came in here and said something about it, my post mysteriously disappeared. NOT COOL!

Drama.  Some people just can't live without it.

RedMagic1 -> RE: Animated gifs (3/25/2010 9:09:27 PM)

I wondered about that.  The boards have been loading slower than they did a month ago.

Was your post about the animations off-topic?  I know the site in general frowns on discussion of moderation within other threads.  Various people have started threads about moderation in general, here in Off Topic.  In terms of your own issues with the mods, if you have any, I suggest you settle them in private.  I've never seen anyone "win" against the mods, and complaining about personal injustices isn't something that lasts long on the boards.

Bottom line: it sounds as though the technology needs to be better before you can wow us with your gif skills.  That's too bad, but there's no value in being upset about it.  Sorry, Darling.

Edited for typos

Well, thank you for your condolences. My original post just stated that I wasn't allowed to post gifs anymore and that I was sad about it. I posted a picture, not an animated gif, but just a regular jpg of Lenore saying, "Hug me or I shall destroy you!" It was really cute. But then they deleted that post without notification. That kind of made me mad. So, then I just posted this. I guess I'm not allowed to post pictures of any kind and I don't think that's very fair at all.

Yes, it was in Off-topic.

WyldHrt -> RE: Animated gifs (3/26/2010 1:37:07 AM)

So.... you posted a crapload of bandwidth hogging gifs (yes, I saw them all over the forums), and were told that doing so had slowed the entire site down for all the users, and such images were no longer allowed. The policy decision was explained to you by the mods.

From there, you chose to start a thread whining about said decision, and it was deleted (I don't know about this, as I never saw the aforementioned thread). Heads up: starting a thread to complain or whine about a decision made by the mods is NOT a good move.

So now, here you are, still complaining about the fact that you can't make posts that slow the forums for other users, and looking for sympathy... do I have this right? [8|]

No, you really don't. I just posted stating that I was told that the gifs were slowing things down and that I wasn't able to post them anymore. Then I joked about it. I said, "I haz an epic sad." and posted this picture, which is a regular jpg and not a gif. And that was deleted.

Animated gifs like the smilies are fine,these are small.What were posted amounted to larger,videolike images and people at CM were having issues with it slowing down the boards and spoiling their enjoyment.They were not always in context of the topics either.Even images that are still should,within reason,be in context of the topic in some way and are hopefully size appropriate or they will be removed at the discretion of the site, for the site and it's users.
You were notified that their removal was to occur.

Please refer to the TOS for further information.
