I know some injections like depo list muscle pain as a side affect but why's it doing that? It is annoying, and it hurts to raise the arm or move it back. I was injected in, other people have had the same complaint.

Could be an allergic thing.  Bottom line is that it's expected.  Somethings just hurt

It could be, this is actually the first time I can remember in the 6-7 years I have been on it with a 1 year break from it, that it has hurtthis much and impaired arm movement.

Do injections annoy the muscle or something, even in normal non reaction cases.

Sometimes it just does. It's a nerve reaction. It can also depend on the skill of the one giving the injection. Some are skilled with needles and good at finding spots, other aint. I agree with John Warren, it just hurts. The muscle tissue simply may be vulnerable and doesn't like being poked. To be honest, I don't blame it for not liking to be poked with some needle thingy. It has every right to be pissed off about it.

If this is the first time, then I suspect she just found a spot.

Some injections are going to hurt: like a tetanus shot.
But I think she just found a spot.

I have to take injections for my diabetes. I take them in my tummy. Sometimes it hurts and sometimes it doesnt. I use a very fine guage needle, but you can still feel it sometimes. Sometimes I bleed a little and sometimes I dont. If I bleed some, I will end up with a bruise. Master says I cant blame those on him.......lol.

No, not a sore spot, just a spot that is more tender than the surrounding muscle and skin. You can poke around on your own arm and find areas that are tender and ones that arent.

I know how you feel.  I've never been on Depo, but for me ANY shot I get (arm, or once I had to get two in my back) ends up swelling, getting hard and hot and hurting for days.  It's happened with all of the shots I've had to get.  On the other hand, I don't even blink at getting my blood drawn, it never hurts or bruises, or even really bleeds but one drop after the needle is gone.  (I think it might have something to do with my veins being so big and close to the skin.  It's so easy to get the needle in and situated I can do it myself).

So yea, I pretty much avoid getting shots when at all possible.

The amount of pain depends on many things. How thick the injectible material is... how much is given... how much displacement of the tissue occurs... how much give there is in the muscle fibers... if it hit or passed through a nerve... are there additives that can cause an irritation... so many factors its hard to say which one is the leading cause.

If you're talking about an intramuscular injection, or into the flesh, it hurts more because you are a big baby. I don't mean that how it sounds though. If it's just phlebotomy, it goes to a vein, it's right there. But an injection if it is meant for the flesh or muscles, you react to the pain. Once the needle gets in, the muscle contracts causing tearing of the tissue, even if the needle doesn't move.

If you can REALLY get relaxed before and during an injection, the pain will be gone in a matter of minutes, unless you have some certain medical condition(s). Diabetes might have an effect, as can abnormal BP, certain blood serums(sp) or chemicals, whatever. But what hurts is really tissue damage, and you cause that without even knowing it when injected.

Now we are talking about normal shit here, no immunohemglobulin, experimental voodoo shit. Just things like B12, cortisone, like that. But the fact is it would happen with pure water for some peole because of the reaction of their muscles subcutaneously, involuntarily.

Either you can control this or not. There is no way to teach it. There is no way to learn it really either.

ETA : Like if you need to give a kid a shot. Just do it, as quick as you can. Distract them a bit, jabem, push the plunger fast and yank it out. Boom, done. They don't have time to react. The pain receptors are aminly at skin level, get past that and you are home free. Muscles only hurt when they get damaged. You percieve that, but unless you flexed, it didn't happen. In and out, ASAP. That's the way.

T^T

Depo can be injected in the meaty portion of your backside. Next time request it there... doesn't leave you with as much of a lasting reminder.

rose I may do that, unless it causes pain with walking or sitting, if it was doing that I would continue arm injections lol.
