quote:
ORIGINAL: mnottertail No, in life anything we do, we will deal with our environs. That is, in a book, it would not be untoward to describe someone using a frying pan, or a hammer or that the grass was green, central to our existence. You would expect the book Slavegirl of Gor to contain many references to slaves. Priest Kings of Gor didn't have page after page of the interactions of slaves, and Assassins of Gor about the same, although alot more bar action, so to speak of paga slaves working would be about the level of waitresses in an Al Capone biography, hardly what I could gather up enough to call stars. You would expect the book Slavegirl of Gor to contain many references to slaves, I agree. Priest Kings is not that way, I agree. But your examples represent too small a sample. The early books do have less mention of slaves. However, that is not true for most of the books especially the later books. Norman was being careful in the earlier days but with confidence he used slaves almost without limit in most of the latter books, say about book 6 or 7 and greater. In contrast to your example Priest Kings of Gor, book two, look at instead Beasts of Gor book 12, you might expect it to contain many references to Beasts and it does if you count the "beasts" that were men, but it contains many more references to slaves; you can hardly turn a page without seeing the word "slave" or "kajira" or "girl" in that context. Take Hunters of Gor book 8, many hunters for sure but slaves on almost every page. Take Savages of Gor book 17, lots and lots of slave action there with slave tendons severed and new Earth girl slaves being trained and on and one and btw war scenes and conversons of the "Sames", the Sames are men and women who go from nothing to true men and women using, you guessed it, a little help from a slave girl and things get stimulated well enough to trigger changed lives Kinda like real life. Maybe that is the answer. Arturas The House of Avalon
