jeff2025,

Word to the wise, ignore idiots.

I may be wrong, but an average male lion would win a one one fight with an average female lion because the mane protects his neck. Also is not the Male Grizzly bear larger than the female.

This only seems to hold true with mammals. Outside of mammals when their is a gross size diference the examples I know favor the female being larger. (I.E. Black Widow spiders, robins, etc.)

Again, I could be wrong. (Gee, one person admits he could be wrong and one steadfastly holds his position. Who'd a thunk it?)

I should post until I can spell chreck!

It isn't the size that counts.
It's how you use it.

Someone mentioned that some people may be "biologically predetermined." I'd just like to point out that there's no such thing. Any geneticist, or even biologist, worth his beans knows that:

genotype + environment = phenotype

Genetic predeterminism is garbage. Genes do not exist without the world around them. And this world is packed of things that will influence and change us.

-jeff

jeff,

Hi! It was me that threw out the phrase 'biologically predetermined', and I believe I argued against it... not for the reasons you mentioned, but only because it just sounded wrong. Your answers give me a much better foundation from which I can make my own position.

Thanks!!!

I guess I didn't post this morning.

jeff2505,

Beware of idiots who get upset if you call them on their idiotic opinions. You'll know who I'm talking of soon enough.

As for my mammals comment. Correct me if I'm wrong, for my knowledge of biology is limited. However is not the average male Grizzly bear bigger than the average female Grizzly bear? In the other families is it reversed? The female black widow is, I think on average, bigger than the male.

Note who is arguing they know more than you about your feild.:)

this is my first post so if i do this wrong please forgive this one. I am what I am and have no shame in being submissive. In most of my career choices I have been put in positions of power and control ( I have never asked for this but have had it thrust upon me) If this one was meant to be Domme she would be but that does not make me happy or give me pleasure but serving and pleasuring others does. I have no memory of any other feeling in my 40 years of life. So It seems I was born to be what I am and will live the rest of my life as I was meant to be.( hiding and living up to the vanilla Ideal of what I should be has no appeal to me any longer)

OMG, a real live breathing 40 year old predisposed submissive female!

Nothing at all wrong with your post wolfsong, you did great. You seem to be very aware.

However, there appears to be at least one small alleged male guerrilla () running around in this mammal & chemistry deviation of the original thread. Go figure, imagine that.

Now if we could just get a live breathing example of predetermination to speak up, we'll be able to make a decent comparison... but wait, the primate may in fact be here already, and may have actually spoken up quite a bit (superprimate). sad if true, but still true, lol

Thank you wolfsong, your comments make perfectly good sense.

Person who won’t name me so I won’t name him,

Gee focused on the number of posts? I wonder what Frued would say you're really concerned about?

By the way, senior user, what is the correct total number of posts? (Any posts, not the provably wrong ideas you specialize in. ) I promise no one will point out when you past that.

Thanks for the banana. Now will you finally take your own advice and click on the green dot next to my name?

PS. On average men run faster than women. (Before anyone mention Florence Griffith-Joyner [sp?] the key phrase is “on average”. )

old article if anyone is interested

I think everyone is born a switch. We have our roles with different people. We submitted to our parents (if we were behaving) we tended to take charge of the younger children on the playground-either looking after them or bullying them. It is what we went through, experienced, or not experienced as we grew that led us to go one direction or another, or to stay a switch. I believe that people in this lifestyle have more needs on a more creative level and need more stimulation, more interesting stimulation to fulfill those needs than do those who live vanilla. Not that vanilla folk are uninteresting, they are just, dare I say, not as needy. Submissives need control, guidance, and to serve. It brings us joy and fulfillment. Dominants need to control, to guide, to teach and when served appropriately to reward in whatever fashion he desires. Switches, well they just party all the way around.
I think those that veer from vanilla way of life are also more dedicated. More committed to making their partners life experience one that fulfills them to the very depths of their soul.

So are we born submissive or dominant? I don't think so. We are however, born with the potential. With the choice.

knees2You here are we born
submissive or is it taught to us or both????

Sincerely, knees2You

It seems to me that each individual soul is really that mix, or that unity of both it's dominant and submissive sides. It is only by experiencing all things at once, that one can in fact feel whole. As the soul is reborn thru multiple life times, those opposite ends of the individual soul, become more aware of their polarity. So yes, when one has sufficient soul awareness, they are quite aware that they are "born" submissive, or "born" dominant. The pressures and foibles of modern society, which hides the sacred, or labels basic intuitive needs as evil, does not support ones search for understanding of thier own inherent needs to in fact be whole, by being who they are, either dominant of submissive.

my thought on this has been that we are born with both a dominant and a submissive side but we identify more with one than the other. Its like having both a masculine and feminine side.
i agree that it is how we are raised and what we have experienced that leads us to where we are.

personally i believe that some are born submission and others learn to be submissive. Those who are born submissive will always tend to be submissive with no desire to Master. On the other hand i have seen some Masters become submissives to experience this area and vise versa with some slaves. But yes, true submissives are born with this inherent quality just as tru gays are born gay and tru hets are born straight.

Hmmmmmmmmmm. This is a really good question. Is it nature or nurture? I am by nature a quiet person (although I have my chatterbox moments) and don't like the limelight. I like to serve others, but while I want them to appreciate it, I don't want a lot of fanfare over it. My parents kept their thumb on me as long as they could. I couldn't wait to go to college and get away from the constant scrutiny. I doubt myself, never thinking that I make a good decision and I think this can be attributed to the way I was raised. I much prefer someone else to make the decisions. I could never adequately perform a job that required me to be responsible for other's lives (air traffic controller comes to mind). This probably has as much to do with self-esteem issues as sub issues. But, I didn't know I found spanking such a turn on until I was married. One time in my whole 20 years of marriage, he slapped my ass during sex and it was a huge turn on. He was pretty much drunk at the time, so doesn't remember it. THAT was the beginning of my journey (at 28).
Does my genetic make up make me sub or is it the way I was raised by older parents? Born or made? I vote for made.

I am not sure biological determinism and genetic determinism are the same thing.

Biology and genes determine how a person reacts, to some degree, to outside stressors and influences. There are a lot of factors which influence how a person develops. In the words of Douglas Adams, it is a WSOGMM, or Whole Sort Of General MishMash.

I agree with nysub and also think that for some, the dominant trend is stronger than in others...meaning dominant one way or another. For those that it is not as much of a strong trait, you get a switch...lol

Graphing this statement, we would have a spectrum which looks like this.

<Dominant.....Switch......submissive>

I know several switches rather well, and personally I think the psychology of one who is able to and does switch is a lot more complex than just being a middle ground between two polar opposites.

Sure, it requires somebody who has Dominant and submissive characteristics, but where it gets weird (in my mind) is the make-up of the mind capable of doing both. To me, stuffing a switch as a middle ground type of individual trivializes their experience, and I am unwilling to do that.
