Dialogue has been started which is important.

It doesn't appear based on the dialogue people are emotionally involved in the outcome of my poll but i could see how it could have easily become such.

Now that its out in the open, perhaps Goreans will continue the dialogue.

Greetings All,

While I have not participated in the discussions much as of late, I do still peek in to see if any topic of interest appears.

I voted No, it should not be disbanded.
I feel and have always felt, Anything worth doing, having or saying is hardly if ever going to be easy.
I think when you put a good strong healthy effort into anything you do in life, the rewards will show themselves, perhaps not right a way or even in a fashion we expected but we will be rewarded none the less.
This board is a prime example of a lot of good people putting forth those efforts I mentioned. We all may not get along or agree with each other or pal around etc etc.
Some do...but the point is, despite all the nonsense we put up with and deal with I feel is not near enough a reason to quit on something I see to be clearly a worth while and inspirational on many levels, activity.

Closing has never been an oft-heard rant in this forum. I've always had the impression that we're all glad it's here, and grateful to CM for hosting it. I don't know where this negativity has sprung from so suddenly. But I would much prefer that the afflicted simply not click their mouse when it points here, instead of trying to fuck with something other people enjoy and value.

The problem with this board isn't Arturas or whoever the latest gadfly is. The problem is that the board is only populated by the middle age, out of touch remnants of a scene that peaked at least ten years ago.

The caravan moved on.

I didn't vote in your poll because I'm not Gorean. However, I wanted to say a couple of things.

While it wasn't done as a poll, we had a very similar thread in the Mistress section a while back. Pretty much the same discussion. Those of us who have been on the forums for a while looking back on the kinds of discussions that we had a couple of years back compared to the ones we tend to have today. It can be disheartening when you try to compare the quality of content.

With that said, there's another difference, too. Not every non-Gorean that comes to the board does so with the intention of kicking up dust. There are times that some of us just have honest questions to ask and this is the best method of doing so. Yes, your FAQ section here is great and it's obvious that a lot went into it, but it's also rather extensive. I can promise you that a person can do several hours of reading and not find what they are looking for. Today, people can come here and ask without getting their head ripped off and it wasn't always like that.

Somebody mentioned that exclusion to only Gorean folks might be a better idea. Sure, that might work for some but at the same time, there's an opportunity lost. Education is worth something, isn't it?

One other thing. Even those of us on the outside can get a pretty good idea of who are good sources of information on this board and who might not be so good. Just because we're not Gorean doesn't mean we're blind.

I also didn't vote, not being Gorean, but my .02 for whatever that's worth here. I used to think that being Gorean meant that you were a cyber-loonie who pretended to ride tarns and was under the delusion that having a weenie meant you should be rudely dominant towards everyone else in the chat room, especially the women. I don't frequent any Gorean sites, so my sole exposure to people who self-identify as Gorean has been the cyber wack jobs who show up in BDSM chats, and this specific forum on Collarme. Interesting discussion threads pop up on my screen and I don't always know they're in the Gorean forum until I click on them and start reading. So I've gotten at least a little bit of an education here. Were it not for this forum, I would know only the cyber weenies, and I would have only contempt for the concept of "being Gorean".

I don't post here because it's not my forum, but in reading here occasionally, I've learned what living Goreans are and what they believe. Thanks to this forum, I understand that they are people who have solid principles that go beyond the kinky stuff and who are worthy of respect, even if I do not agree with all of their views.

If it matters to you, this forum is a good ambassador and a good educational example to the BDSM community. Those of us who are not personally interested in your D/s orientation and who have not gone in search of relevant sites or forums may never have had any other exposure to living Goreans, except occasional snippets from this forum. We only tend to run into the obnoxious cyber kind by accident, and they are not good ambassadors for you. As far as I know, CollarMe is the only place that the average BDSM person who *isn't* looking is likely to run into the active discussion of living Goreans by accident.

It is also true that overlap with non Goreans will cause you to be exposed to trolls and annoying people. Obviously you know that, because the trolls come in here and act like trolls. But for every non Gorean who reads here and decides to be obnoxious, how many read here, get a positive education and go away politely, having learned that Goreans are worthy of respect? You'll almost never hear from those folks, because we *do* respect you and we don't want to intrude into your place. But I'm glad I learned that there is such a thing as a living Gorean, and I wouldn't have done that without this forum.

I just finished reading the series. I'd read a few books when I was younger, and one or two more recently, but I finally went and dug through the whole thing.

There's a lot I didn't buy, but also a lot of merit, and I'm honestly curious about the people and community involved in it. Figured I'd lurk around here and see where else Gorean haps are peopling.

So I just wanted to say, try not to delete this board until I've gotten a few things from it, eh?

As far as this board closing I don't think it's a good idea to close a source of information that has been responsible for teaching, well atleast myself as I can't speak for others. When you get beyond all the BS postings there has been a lot of great posts here made over the years that help others to get a better understanding of who Goreans really are. Why would you want to take that away from people?

The fact is it isnt JUST the Gorean forums thats being hit with a lot more BS. Its the entire site (remember folks its near spring break for many of the little kiddies found a site and are enjoying their break time....)

Every forum has its ebbs and flows of trolls and good discussions.

If you want more of the "good old days" Discussions dont whine and complain that they are passed but start new ones.

If you dont do anything to change what you see as an issue, you dont have a right to complain about it because unless someone puts forth the effort for the change, it will never happen.

I personally love what Ive learned from this particular forum and would be truly sad to see it go or be closed to "Goreans only" by some random persons standards of what it is and isnt to be Gorean.

As i think i have stated, i posted this in a moment of meloncholy. I don't want it closed but i am fresh out of new topics as i participated in many many of the old ones. Was it whining --yep, i never said it wasn't, but if my whining gets Goreans talking-- which is who i posted the actual poll too -- rather than to watch more BS lol i'd post it again in a minute.

I appreciate the non-Gorean comments that added to the understanding of where they come from and the value they see in this forum. It was very enlightening really for me. I also appreciate those who don't live and identify as Gorean not voting as i was curious based on a lot of people no longer posting in this forum.
