The group that started this were all Gorean RPG people from AoL Gorean role playing. They decided to do offline what they were playing online. I remember when they started this and their first web pages. I have watched, from a distance, as this has grown and talked to a few people who have been there.
The best way to still describe it is role playing offline. A free-form Gorean LARP. It is not as much a Renn Faire as it is a version of an SCA event. They don't charge people to come watch people perform Gor and then try to sell them things at high prices. They do this for each other and everybody participates to some extent. To be honest, from the posts and pictures I have seen, and the people I have talked to, I think they have a lot of fun doing it. I think I could have some fun playing at Gor that way, but I have been in the SCA for a LONG time. <grins> It is close enough to what we do that it would not be that hard to do it. No....I would not be "Gorean" by doing any of that. I am Gorean by what I am and what I do all day, every day. From all I have seen they are mostly PG-13 to R rated. I haven't heard of any orgies. I am certain some people have had sex while there. That happens in people's tents at SCA camping events too. There are a lot of May babies born to parents who go to the Pennsic War in August. <grins>
Over all it looks pretty safe if you are willing to suspend disbelief for a while and just relax and go with the show. Would I expect any of what I call real Goreans to be there? No. It could happen. It probably has happened. Do I think the people running this are Gorean? No. Just players having a good time and calling it Gorean because it is similar to what they do online.
